MINI Cooper S. AIO+RMG+NXT = WOW

Why is it that the orange peel is only visable in one shot and and that the other reflection shots are clear ?

I will check again when the car is next washed..... on if the panel has the effect or if it is the camera.

Not sure if NXT removed RMG...... Car still kept that wet glaze look so I think it did not.

when i see one of my friend's new mini ill be sure to check if is car has OP also....youre best bet is to compare the same panel on the opposite side, comparing the door with the hood will be a worse comparo than door to door

Orange peel happens from paint application, environment, etc. It is just high and low spots of paint/clear. It can be eliminated or greatly reduced by wetsanding, but you sacrifice a huge amount of clearcoat to make this happen. For anything but a showcar, it's not worth it, IMO.

Don't worry though, 99% of cars out there have OP.

Your car still looks great.

Car looks very nice! I like all the chrome accents.

Yeah, My new truck has OP and what a shame!! Cuts down on a supper glossy look. I guess I really notice it because the GN has a custome paint job which is totally flat!

Yea, MINIs seem to have the OP on the verticle panels. I don't notice it at all on the hood or the roof.

Here's mine (05 mcs as well)

Most cars have OP, It's nothing to worry about, car still looks great, Even $70-80k benzs and bimmers have it. Only cars that I have seen recently that have very little Orange Peel is the VW phaton, Audi A8, Any Rolls, Bently, Ferarri, or lambo.

That's true of most cars - seems to be the distance of the sprayer from the panel. My car had it's worst OP on the bottom half of the doors (they slope in, or away from the sprayer) and the trunk/rear bumper. I notice most cars trunks have terrible OP. It's a shame.

there's probably orange peel in every shot. it just appears less the farther you are from the car. your hood probably suffers the least amount of OP, at least from your picture. nonetheless, effort well spent!

One cause for orange peel is gravity. The thin paint starts to flow down before it dries. The film is not uniform anymore, as the liquid starts to form drops. The hills are the 'heads' of the drops, and the valleys are the tails. That's why the horizontal panels suffer the least.

Mazda has built an advanced paint booth in the 90s, in which the whole body was fastened onto a two-arm structure that rotated the body while painting to ensure perfect paint film build with minimal orange peel effect.

Sadly, it is too expensive now, but the Xedos models (Xedos 9 = millenia), painted exclusively in that booth were pretty impressive examples of minimal orange peel.

NXT was made for that color! For some reason, I find NXT looks better on dark metallic blues than any other LSP I have tried.

Car looks great!
