Mildew car odor

Hey guys.. My dads jeep is starting to smell like mildew... it has not gottin wet, not sure what it could be.. He does not believe it is in the carpets. whats the best way around this... Thanks
 
Is it a Grand Cherokee? If so on the Pass. side floorboard there is an AC drain that clogs and overflows water onto the carpet.

If not, check for tree debri on the cowl screen, that can cause a moldy smell. Put some Hydrogen Peroxide in a spray bottle, turn AC on full blast and mist the cowl a few times. The HP will kill mold/bacteria.

Never heard of the HP and turning on the AC would kill the mold and mildew.:dunno
 
I spray Natural Look into the carpets and then towel dry..it contains biocides that help prevent mold and mildew:)
 
The mildew smell seems to be a pretty coomon problem. GM even sells a product they call "Odor Eliminator". part #12378554. Seems like 16 oz. was about $7 or $8. It is sprayed on the carpet and in the cowl inlets. As far as how good it works, I can't say for sure. The odors disappear, but I usually have aired the car out by leaving the windows open for a day or so after I have used the Odor Eliminator. I don't really know if the airing out took care of the problem or if the Odor Eliminator did the job.
Considering that Poorboy's Natural Look is very nearly the same price and is useful for many more things, I think the NL sounds like a better investment.

I was asking more for the health factors than the smell.

I posted a couple days ago, but it got "lost," and I mentioned that I saw on another companies' site that they promoted their interior cleaner with a wide spectrum germicide to kill stuff in the vents that gets blown into your lungs when you turn on the air conditioning. (Yeah, yeah...I know I don't need A/C for a while here. :rolleyes: )
