Microfiber Waffle Weave in Dryer

So I was doing my laundry last night, and I threw my MF WW in the load with my clothes because it wasn't really too dirty. Well, when it came time to dry my clothes, I forgot it was in there and I threw it in the dryer with my clothes as well, and set it to perm press. I put three sheets of fabric softener as well because my load was big. When I took out my clothes, I remembered that I had the WW in there and that it doesn't belong in the dryer. My question is, why not? What happens when you dry it with heat and fabric softeners?

I finally found my answer on Google after a bit of searching. Apparently it leaves a film on the towel. Also, it reduces its static properties. Now, should I still use this towel, or should I go out and buy another?
 
I would soak it with APC and wash it again. Somone posted something on here a couple years ago about fabric softener "bursting" the fibers, but I dunno about that. You should have plenty of waffle weaves anyway, try the dish towels in the kitchen section at Wal-Mart, $2.96 for 2 16x24 towels.
 
MFs (of all types) do fine in the dryer, just don't use the sheets.



If you use a lot of sheets the dryer might have a build up in it, just something to consider.



I've accidentally fabric-softened MFs and as Setec Astronomy said, just wash it with something potent and it oughta be good as new.



I'd like to see some evidence of that "bursted fiber" phenomenon :hmph: People sometimes like to act like MFs are oh-so-fragile but mine never are.
 
Both posts are good advice, (especially the buildup of fabric softener in the dryer - hmmm, I wonder if that's why there's streaks sometimes), but about once a month I'll 'lightly' boil my MF's in denatured water, in a gigantic pot (skimming the impurities off the top), and let them hang dry. Once dry I'll shake the crap out of them and they're as good as new.

"Bursted Fiber Phenomenon" ... sounds like they were using those Costco Yellow's and they lost fibers and shed like my cats in the spring!

Micorfiber and dryer sheets do not mix. When washing my Mfs, I wet a paper towel and wipe out the washer and dryer drums to remove any detergent/softener film. Also adding a cup of white distilled vinegar to the rinse water will cut any remianing film/detergent from the fibers.
