Microfiber towels

I have trouble with the Wal-Mart and Turtle Wax towels shedding. MF towels aren't supposed to shed but some of the really cheap ones will. Very frustrating on glass.

For drying you will want one of the big blue waffle weave towels--actually you'll want several so you don't have to do laundry as often. I got mine at Classis Motoring Accessories but there are probably better deals out there.

Chemical Guys make some amazing waffle weaves and very plush microfibers.. and i also have a handful of meg's microfibers and some cheapy costco ones i use for non paint related stuff.

I was wondering how the MF towels I purchased stack up to the rest of the towels offered on-line. I puchased Meguairs Supreme Shine MF and then a pack of MF's from Costco. They both fill the same and their product tags are the same: 80% Polyester 20% Polyamide. The only difference is the Meg MF;s have a nicer softer edge.

What material are the other towels made of. ? Ployester ? Polyamide

Thnks.

Just about all of the MF's are a blend of Polyester and Polyamide and range from between 70/30 to 80/20. The difference is the better MF's are softer, more absorbent, thicker (with the plush towels), they won't mar your finish, and they have a nicer binding. They will also last longer and leave behind little to no lint.

The exception to the Polyester/Polyamide are the DFT and CBT towels that are a MF made from a natural fiber.

Ty Webb I would love to see the WRX all clean!

Yesterday I had about 2 hours to dedicate to getting the car nice and clean, so I'll take some pictures when I get home and post em.

I washed the car using a wash mitt and the 2 bucket system (thanks Autopia!), using extremely light pressure, as there wasn't much more than a little dust and road grime over most of the car. Since it was a little windy out, a good deal of the water evaporated without me having to dry the whole car, so I was able to use a couple MF cloths to lightly wipe the car dry, constantly in fear of the dreaded swirl marks. Everything looked good.

For the window glass, I used another of the MF towels with some Stoner spray. This is where I noticed the towels' shortcomings. They do shed a tiny bit, and it can be seen pretty easily, especially at night looking out the windows.

I'm going to take the advice of everyone here and invest in some quality towels. The Wal-Mart ones aren't bad, and they make a great rag for wiping down the interior, door jams and hinges, and engine compartment.

Thanks for all the comments, and I may be posting here later today about my other car, a 92 Maxima in need of some major love.

Just went to the PakShack, and here's my order:

2 MF Waffle Weave glass towels

6 16x16 Ultra Smooth MF towels (for quick detailing and other exterior wiping)

1 25"x36" MF Waffle Weave (for drying)

1 DF 7" x 10" Concours Wash Mit

Does this look like it's sufficient, or am I missing something?

Glass and drying seem to be covered, and I have some Meguier's NXT detailing spray that I'll use the ultra smooth towels for. I've got the Wal-Mart towels for the interior and and other jobs.

Oh yeah, I also am apparently qualifying for a free 16" x 24" Ultra-Plush Micro Fiber Towel that will get some miscellaneous duty I guess.

Looks good man, you will add to it as your passion/products become bigger. but what you just ordered is a very good start, should have everything covered with that. I like pak shaks ultra fine towel for the final wipe after i have buffed off all the dry wax. silky smooth towel for your silky smooth paint!

take some pics of the ride when its done!

Jim

I'll take some this evening, but I'll put them in the photo section, so keep an eye out tonight!

I'm definitely becoming obsessed, I've been planning my general wash/wax/polish regimen all day, but I've still got some reading to do, and I'll run my ideas by the community here before buying anything. Again, thanks to everyone!

Hmm I probably should have bought more than one of those. Oh well I'll just do another order.

Also, I just threw up some pictures of my car if anyone's interested.
