Microfiber Towel Questions

I'm trying to find out more about microfibers itself? where can i get more info about it? What is quality microfiber? because i have seen MF towels from WalMart and Costco and seems like they aren't very good. Like the ones from Pakshak or Autofiber.com are some good ones people like and it seems like people prefer the Plush type of MF towels. What is the difference between the plush and the thinner type MF towels? Also i heard that the more thread count the MF has the better it is.....where can i get more info on that? I woudl love to have as much resources on this as possible and i know a lot of you have been using MF and should know a good amount about it and its quality. Thanks
 
The response to that question would require a 500 page technical manual. Your best bet is to do a search here and read as much as possible. Keep the following in mind:

- Higher thread count = higher quality is a fallacy

- MF strictly refers to the diameter of a yarn, it has absolutely nothing to do with what it is made out of (cellulose, cotton, poly, nylon, whatever)
 
You can do a search here for "MF*" as the search term and limit it to threads where DFTowel has posted. He seems to be the resident guru for technical info on MFs. But, of course, a lot of us also blow smoke on the topic. ;)



Me, I won't buy the WalMart-quality MFs anymore. Those from the detailing vendors are way more than "head and shoulders" above. :up
 
I highly recommend PakShak microfiber towells from Ranney. Not only are his towells awesome, but his service is second to none. Oh yeah, let him know you're an Autopia member and the prices are excellent.:xyxthumbs

PakShak does not have free shipping if you use the Autopia discount. If you pay full price than you get free shipping, but it works out to be cheaper if you take the discount and pay the shipping. Great towels and service.
 
So I went to Costco and got some MF, they are 8.95 for 12, yellow/creamy color. I am surpeise but their quality, which is very soft, plush, they are not as thick as the PakShak MF but still, very very soft, I think they are even softer than PakShak's one. I used the PakShak's ones several time and they are getting not as soft as these new onese from Costco, I think the water is just too hard?? But Costco's ones are not very good at absolute the water than PakShak. I do the CD test, they didn't scratch the CD even I rub very hard on the CD, however, the edge doesn't scratch the CD, but I think it's true for all MF, just avoid the edge to contact the paint. Overrall, I am very please very the price vs quality, I will use Costco MF for interior or those hard to reach gap, the engine bay, wheels, windows and the underbody(I have a 12 of them), I will still use PakShak for the paint(I have about 10 of them), they are now exclusively for the paint and the Costco one will do the dirty work. Nice finf!!
