Microfiber swirls Paint?

I was doing a paint correction today and after i was finished with the correction stage i moved on to the lsp and after i wiped off the wax the car had a bunch of fine swirls in the clear coat...Any ideas as to what could cause this?

are you sure you completely removed the defects and what kind of microfiber towels were you using?

btw... :welcome

they were cobra microfibers, not exactly sure what model number...They were brand new towels and yes i am positive i removed all the defects, i have never had this happen to me before so it was kind of surprising when i was finished to see the paint re-scratched

Which Cobra MF's...they have a jillion different kinds, and did you wash them before you used them? How long between polishing and LSP/buffing? Did you move the car in the middle? Windy? Leaf blower?

Good question. You should always wash new MFs before you use them.

Did the wax require a lot of pressure to remove?

Even microfiber will scratch if you apply too much pressure to remove the wax.

Good point also.

What type and color is the car? Some cars (JB BMWs) will scratch very easily, even with perfectly clean MFs.

the microfibers were washed before use...no the wax wasnt hard to take off...yes i used an alcohol wiped down after the correction....the car was washed outside and then brought inside to be dryed and corrected, everything was done in one day the car wasnt in bad shape and it was a black viper

Well mico fibers should not scratch paint, but they can if they have been "contaminated" by dropping them, dirt, and debris... I'm wicked anal about my micro fibers, my paint only MFs get washed separately and put in a hard plastic "shoebox" type box, only opened to get one out. Once I'm done they go back in their own separate plastic bag. I know it sounds crazy but it keeps stuff like this happening. There's nothing more frustrating then to get a piece of dirt on your MFer and go wiping it around on a black car :doh

If your microfibre is scratching paint it means it is ready for the bin (especially if its been washed like you said).

You only need to have a very small piece of grit or dirt on the microfibre and it will scratch the paint when buffing wax or polish.

I say bin it and get some new microfibres.

Is it a new or recent paint job? I had this problem on a Honda that was a repaint with crappy clear and it never cured properly.

Sure MF can scratch paint, that's why we have the CD test. Still waiting to find out which Cobras these were, they have a whole range of quality, and most of us have seen crappy MF's that will scratch; sometimes the culprit is the edging.

You might just be swirling the wax.

I think this is what's going on ...

What was the LSP of choice and how long did you let it dry? If you QD an area, do the 'swirls' go away?

I'm surprised nobody has asked this yet, but what polishes and pads are you using to do your correction with?

Could be you didn't fully remove the swirls and the lubes in the polishes were hiding the swirls but came off after you waxed it. Or you didn't break down the polishes fully or refine them afterwords and have some left over holograms?

Don't Vipers have a pretty hard clear?

So what was your exact process and what polishes are you using with what pads?

Not trying to be critical, just trying to find out what's going on.

He said he did a 50/50 wipe down after polishing. ;)

ABSOLUTELY microfiber towels can scratch/mar the paint especially on Super Soft Lexus Paint, and it really shows on black or dark colored paint. You have to be very careful with how much pressure you apply when removing polish or LSP, Spray wax, Quick detailer spray etc
