What's your opinion on using these to apply Meguiar's Ultimate Polish, and Ultimate Wax?

The store was out of the yellow foam pads, but I do have the black Meguiar's pad that came with a different Meguiar's product. Thanks.

Never tried those particular ones...remember to CD-test them before letting them touch your paint.

MF is mild for polishing, generally moreso than foam and *much* moreso than cotton.

*IMO* MF is OK for LSPing but only OK. Compared to foam, I don't like the way MF is once it gets "loaded up" with product, but I guess that's just a personal preference.

Now when somebody else chimes in with how MF is so wonderful and so much better than anything else for this...eh, I won't :argue Different strokes and all that.

Thanks for the reply. I want to test the Polish on an "inconspicuous" area of the car first, but I'm not sure where that would be? Door jamb maybe? I can't imagine a Meg's Ultimate Polish doing any real damage to my paint, but better safe than sorry, I suppose.

Also, should I strip old wax maybe wash with dish detergent before polishing, or will the polish itself take away the old wax?

Problem with using a door jamb is that many times those out-of-the-way areas aren't clearcoated, or at least not to the same extent as the rest of the body. Yeah, even on "good cars".

I wouldn't worry much about the product, but I'd want to know that the pad was OK. Do make sure you have appropriate inspection conditions so you can really see what's going on, don't want a nasty surprise later when you see it in different conditions.

I wouldn't bother stripping it in most cases. The polish will be cutting off *paint* so the existing wax is seldom an issue. The exceptions IME have been very healthy LSPs, primarily sealants, and I doubt that's the case here.

I just ran outside to tackle the front quarter panel on my car with the Ult. Polish, and Ult. Liquid Wax combination. The polish made all of the difference in the world, and seemed to lift out many of the light water spots that I could see previously.

Now, however, I see why a DA polisher should be on my wish list. The polish is a little bit hard to work with, and seems to want to set up fairly quickly. Can't wait to tackle the rest of the car bit by bit!
