i notice my car paint can easily be scratched, is it supposed to be like that? i do have a clearcoat but i seems very weak. on my trunk my friend ran his hand on it cause i told him i just clayed the trunk. he said it was very smooth, but i noticed there a very thing layer of dust he moved along with it. when i looked in the light there were tiny scratches. i can probably get it out by some polish but is my clearcoat supposed to scratch that easily?

Yes, some finishes are very soft today. That's why we take great car in washing, claying and more washing to remove all dirt/dust. Even if you QD if the dust is somewhat moderate, it can leave small scratches if you don't use a good MF and turn it often or use new ones.

Other times it's just the wax that gets the brunt of the marks.

yes, hopefully its the wax taking the damage! you think a coat of klasse or any other sealant is durable enough to not scratch at all or less than wax?

Shyne- Some clears are SOOO soft, like yours, and others are so hard you just wouldn't believe!

*I* think that you oughta get the marring out with a mild product like #9 or one of the other favorites. Then do the Klasse twins, layering on MANY layers of SG. Let *IT* take the abuse. You'll get some marring in the *SG*, but not in your paint (assuming you get enough SG on there).
