Micro-maring and LC Tangerine pad

I just got around to trying the LC Tangerine pad this weekend and had disastrous results. I was trying to clean up some light swirls on my 98 Honda Accord (red) using PC LC tangerine pad and Menzerna Final Polish II. What I ended up with is some serious micro maring that looked like clouds of tiny swirls.

Now i've used the PC plenty of times before without ever running into this issue. I ended up switching to Menzerna IP to clear out the micro maring but it didnt get rid of everything.

Could someone shed some light on what is going on? I followed correct procedure...primed the pad (5.5 inch), spread the product, speed on 5 - 6, stopped when product went clear.

Please help.

Just sounds to me like the paint is soft! lower the rpms a tad, use a finishing pad, and a fine polish with little pressure, that should clear up whatever marring was induced by the tougher combo.

Thank you jono, I will try that and report back.

*Would Menzerna FPII be considered a fine polish?

NOTING that I don't know from Honda clear, or FPII, and have never tried a LC tangerine pad...

Isn't FPII supposed to be about as mild as abrasive polishes get?

I thought so as well. Which is why I don't understand why I ended up with such a terrible amount of micromaring. At this point all I can attribute this too is the pad. Maybe it's too high-cut for FPII?

Maybe..they do make a hydrotech finishing pad these days.

Sorta surprising though that the tangerine would be *that* unsuitable, huh?

I bought two of them too....not sure what to do with them now.

I'm sure I've read lots of posts where people have had great success with these pads. I can't be the only one who's had this kind of problem.

@D&D - thanks for the data sheet. I see that FPII (PO85RD?) is quite low on the cut scale. That is why I was so thrown off by the results.

FPII is PO87MC - Micro Polish.

The polish isn't the problem, I'd look towards the pad. I haven't used those pads yet but the marring you mention is consistent with using too aggressive a pad. Honda paints are rather soft.
