Based on recent Tweets by Michael Moore, such as this,

My uncle killed by sniper in WW2. We were taught snipers were cowards. Will shoot u in the back. Snipers aren't heroes. And invaders r worse

Is he a coward or a hero? Share your thoughts.

He is an Idiot and a Coward...

Perhaps if he were to watch the movie he would learn what a Sniper does and yes, the Enemy has them too...
Ours, are just better...
Dont get me started... :)

Can't put it any better myself

Thank you Dan

This Movie has already grossed over 100 million from the opening weekend...

He and that other Dufus Seth "Broken" Rogen are looking pretty lame out there alone..

Too bad either of these puds can't ever be drafted... I would love to be in that Flight with them...

Maybe he should actually fight in a war, then talk. The only war he seems to be fighting against is obesity and yea... he's losing.

I'm not sure that I could come up with anything to say about that fat pile of dog feces that wouldn't get me kicked off the forum

Anyone who puts their life on hold to join the armed services is a hero in my book. But Michael was right, when I was a kid (1950's) we were shown in books and films that the ENEMY snipers were cowards. Notice the word enemy. It's all about perspective, when the enemy does something they're cowards, when we do the same thing were heroes. Consider the American Revolution, the colonist were heroes, the British were evil. In Vietnam Americans were heroes, the Viet Cong were evil little cowards (ask John Wayne). It's all about perspective.

Well put. What you say about perspective is well represented in the book "One Shot, One Kill" by Charles Sasser (a story from this book was used in the 1993 movie "Sniper").

Disclosure: I have not seen "American Sniper".

I honestly think that Carlos Hathcock was the best sniper. If you look at the missions he did and the fact that Vietnam was not the most friendly enviroment - insects, snakes, heat, humidity etc and the weapons were basically a hunting rifle with a big scope. If you put it all in perspective, then Carlos had less confirmed kills BUT - he took out a NVA sniper with a bullet through the other guys scope!, He crawled for 3 days to take out a NVA general at 800 yards and made it back. He pulled marines out of a blazing APC till his own burns made him stop and finally - it was MS that took the life of this remarkable man.
Note -yeah I know Mythbusters say that the scope shot was not possible, but, a retest with a scope from the same period as the NVA was using confirmed it.

I agree, I feel as though it was more on the snipers natural abilities back then. I saw one of his last missions on the history channel. Guys got balls to say the least.

"Coward" is the wrong word in this context; that false dichotomy displays shallow thinking. I suspect the word was used merely for its, uhm...provocative value. Good for stirring things up on the internet, huh? Who gives a [flip] what Mr. Moore thinks?

Whether Mr. Hathcock or Mr. Kyle, anyone who voluntarily puts themselves between us and those seeking to do us harm are HEROES in my book!

I hope that someday Mr. Moore will appreciate his "Freedoms" and give a lot more thought about what he says and the context. CONTEXT MATTERS...

Oops! I hit the wrong button! Please cancel my hero vote. Michael Moore is, and always has been, an idiot. He looks worse than most homeless people that I see on the street. Snipers are out there by themselves doing their job and if i were in the infantry I would thank God every day for the snipers. Haven't seen a movie in years but I'll most likely buy the book if one has been written. I was in the Coast Guard but spent two weeks at Camp Pendleton Marine Base in 1967 for rifle training and have nothing for respect for those assigned as snipers. It's difficult enough to hit a paper target that doesn't move and I'm sure it's much more difficult to hit a human when you may not know the actual distance, wind speed, etc. and you don't get do overs.
