As many of you know the miata is a small car. This particular miata has some SERIOUS swirls and spiderwebing. I am not sure what the year is or any specifics other than its a dark green, but that dosent really matter at this point. She is selling the car and wants it lookin the best i can get it.

This is my game plan at this point:

Wash

clay

DACP #83 x2

Speed Glaze #80 x2

#7 or #82 x1 (havent decided yet)

#26 x1

Glass:

stoners glass cleaner

Rainx the windshield

Wheels and tires:

E1 A2Z for the cleaning (might have to bust out the steam cleaner)

Megs high endurance high gloss gell

How much would 'you' charge and how long would that take 'you' to do?

200 or so....180-210 probably....you can always thrown in the fact that you will be taking more time on it to make it worth thousands more, so a couple hundred will be worth it to her to make more on the sale....

why rain-x the windshield if she's going to sell it save yourself some time :)

Its what she asked for.

Sounded strange to me also but hey if thats what the customer wants then thats what i will do.

Im gonna try to bust it out in 6 hours. I think i can do it. Ive never done a vehicle this tiny before, it should be fun :2thumbs:

Most cars i do are midsize to full size trucks/SUV's which take 10-12 hours minimum and ussually require me to come back the next day to finish.

This customer was a refferal (sp?) from another customer i take care of on a regular basis.

I have done several miata's. On with single stage paint and one with clear coat. The clear coat miata wasnt too hard to work on, about 6 hours. The one with single stage finish that was horrible took me 8 hours to complete. If the miata you are working on is single stage then prepare to spend more time on it. Good luck

Thats what i dont know yet is if its a single stage or clear coat. It shouldnt make much difference i wouldnt think. Why did the single stage take you longer?

Anyone else have any good tips about miata paint?

I booked a wash-n-wax for a regular customer after this detail but i have no idea what im in for with miata paint. Some say its soft as hell and easy to correct and some say its kinda dificult.

After about a half or full panel your pad will have too much build up of paint transfer. You will have to use a new pad wash the same pad after every 1 to two panels. Time consuming in itself.

What's the condition of the convertible top? What is your plan to tackle that? And is the back window plastic or glass? I had a '91 Miata and the plastic in the back looked pretty bad after a while. This was before I discovered Autopia and came down with OCD, so the red paint (I think it was SS) looked horrible after 3 years.

I have no idea about the top yet, i actually only seen the car once for about 15 seconds and the top from what i can remember was pretty good, the paint on the other hand is swirl city to the max.

I told her i would clean it up the best i can, she really just wants her paint to shine.

A 99 Miata will have a Clearcoat.

We do lots of Miatas, whether thru our Club affiliation/sponsorship, or referrals from Aim Tuning .

The paint really doesn't require any specialized attention. Be methodical, use proper lighting, and just do your work.

I think your pricing is spot on.

i would 83 twice, 80 once, 82 twice or once, then 26 carnuba....from what I hear, 82 is more of a pure polish with very, very minor abrasives that will do more polishing than cutting....I have never used it so that is based on what i heard....your single coat of 80 with slightly fill and correct at the same time.

Agreed...Miata's are FUN to work on, I like to call them 'gravy' cars! LOL! The paint buffs easily and 6 hours should be right on spot for you.
