Many months ago the care and washing of MF was discussed because many people were experiencing a loss of absorbency with their towels. None of the “standard care and washing methods restored the absorbency.
While experimenting I found that washing them using Cascade dish washer detergent did a fair job of restoring absorbency, but then I noticed that Cascade contains chlorine bleach and I’ve always been told to not use bleach on microfiber. I contacted several MF vendors asking about the use of bleach, and got similar responses from all of them, “I dunno, it’s what my Asian suppliers tell me. Based on this exacting information I decided to do some more experimenting; put small pieces of MF in varying strength bleach up to and including pure Clorox and found that the MF came out very clean, very absorbent, very pale (or white), and did not appear to be damaged!
Since then my normal routine is to wash my MF towels after every use in the washing machine using warm water and cascade dish washer detergent. I dry them in the dryer on low/delicate. After quite a few use and wash cycles they still begin to lose absorbency so I add some Clorox to the wash. So far I haven’t noticed any loss of durability.
TortoiseAWD . . . . . I want one of your mobius MF towels!
