MFs dried with dryer sheet...are they ruined

I did a wash of all my Microfibers, and put them in the dryer. My mom decided to come in a lil later and change the setting on the dryer and throw in a sheet. Are my microfibers ruined? Will rewashing them help? Jeez im pissed!

That's good advice, I didn't know that. I've always used luke warm water as per instructions. Is this OK or am I ruining my MFs?

Hot water will not harm them in the least bit unless it is WAY past boiling. In fact, washing with hot water will better extract and dissolve any wax, polish, grime, etc. imbedded in the fibers.

I agree. After 1 week of marriage ( wonderful institution. I highly recommend) I learned not to be helpful with the laundry and she knows not to mess with my car towels and MF's, detailing ( even though she is quite gifted with a rotary,blocking and wet sanding) and the lawn. :)
 
I too had a run in with a dryer sheet. My fiance puts dryer sheets in EVERYTHING, she likes the smell. She packs clothes away with dryer sheets, stores luggage and purses with dryer sheets, and to do a load of laundry without a dryer sheet...are you DAFT? LOL



I just washed them again and they were fine. I always wash them in hot water with Woolite. They come out great every time. I've found Woolite seems to do a better job removing wax and dirt also.

NO KIDDING?? Leo, I always listen closely to your advice. I guess I grew up in the "if it's polyester, wash-warm/rinse-cold" school. Are you saying HOT water is preferable?? I'm truly shocked, but will do what you recommend.



And ... I do notice that, having done the "warm wash/cool rinse" for the past several weeks after lots of detailing, many of my MFs are pretty seriously stained. Just never occured to me that a HOT wash would be safe.

That's true for clothing so that it doesn't come out wrinkled or with puckered seams because the cotton thread shrank but not the fabric. Dyes used in polyester also are not as color fast as cotton dyes so they will fade. Since you aren't wearing your towels and shouldn't really care if the dye fades then wash away in hot!



Another thing, clothing manufacturers always have a tendency to play it safe and recommend cold wash or dry cleaning even for items that can be machine washed.

I must admit this one has me puzzled. As a laundry "pro" (I've done enough over the years that if I'm not; I should be:) ) I always had the understanding that when you didn't want to set in a stain (particularly reds ie. blood, red wine, etc.) that you used cold water??? It has mostly worked for me. Is the setting of a chemical different than a stain?

Your mf towels are ruined. No two ways about it. Just box them up and send them to me and I'll rewash and...oops, I mean give them a proper burial. ;)
