MF vs. Cotton towels?

Hi everybody ;)



I'm new to detailing, and just wanted to hear your opinion. What do you think is better for cleaning the wax residue, MF towels or 100% cotton cloths? What are the cons and pros of each of them? (untill now I've been using cotton cloths, but interested in mf's if they work better).

Btw, how many towels you "consume" for cleaning the whole car?

both work well 100% cotton is old school

and microfiber is the great new fad



get yourself some nice MF and test them for yourself
 
I don't use cotton on cars anymore. MF works better and cotton lints too much. I even use MF in the kitchen now! As BigJim stated try both and see what you prefer.
 
Really it's personal preferance, i've used both and I personally prefer MF but I still use cotton when the laundry gets low :P
 
Go get yourself some MF's. Put a MF in one hand and a cotton towel in the other. That should be enough for you to decide. If you are trying to get your car swirl free then you will never use a cotton towel again. It is amazing just how rough the cotton towels are and how much damage they can do. I can spend all day polishing a car to perfection. No way in heck would I use a cotton towel then to wipe off the wax. It will ruin everything I spent so much time and energy on. You can run a cotton towel over a black car and completely destroy your work.



Be carefull though. I have this strange addiction to MF towels now.

\r\n\r\nEdgeless all the way, I work at a dealership in the detail department, and I can\'t count how many times i\'ve argued with my boss that spending $5CAD for a pack of 20 MF towels, and spending $10-$15 for one, is WORTH the cost...the towels she buys last maybe 2 weeks when it\'s busy...then they\'re worse than cotton towels for damaging paint.\r\n\r\nBy the By, I bring my own supplies to work :P'

It seems MF's are way better than cotton, I'll switch to them then. (until now I used MF's only for window cleaning). Btw, are there any different MF's specially for windows and for wax, or any MF can be used for both?



One last thing - how many towels you "consume" for cleaning the whole car? (just want to know how many towels I need to buy ;))

I believe so. I use waffle weave for drying car, plush towel for QD, edgeless (idk how to spell it, low nap???) for buffing polish & wax residue. For cleaning (defined as QD-ing interior and exterior) I usually use 3 - 6 towels. For a full detail job, it could be around 8 - 14 towels.
