MF or wash mit with ONR

Well I decided to buy some ONR and give it a try and liked it for the first time. I have a black 08 300c and here in Michigan with the cold and snow decided it was time to give it a 2nd try.

With the outside temp at 4 degrees this morning with the car in the garage, I loaded up my two buckets. 1 bucket ONR warm water, the other just warm water. I did the whole car in about 40 minutes. Car turned out great.

My question is this... Should I be using a MF cloth or a Microfiber wash mit? I used 2 microfibers today, 1 for upper pannels and 1 for lower bottom half. The reason I ask the question is that I noticed after the car was dried, I used mega light and notice some swirls which may or may not be caused by mf's when using the ONR.

Once it warms up some so I can hit the car with Menzerna and have it swirl free, I don't want to be using the wrong wash cloth or mit when using ONR that may cause some minor defects.

Please help coach me to get better with this ONR, I appreciate everyones input.

WIth MF's, I tend to be worried about stuff getting stuck in the MF nap. I also prefer sheepskin mitts or grout sponges, both of which rinse out easily to prevent marring.

Yea I just used my grout sponge to ONR. I've used it for conventional washes before, but this was the first time I used it for ONR. Works great. Before I was converted to the GS, I used a sheepskin wash mitt, I never use anything MF to wash. I did before and, like stated above, crap gets caught in the nap and marrs the crap outta my vehicle. And I blot dry with a waffle weave.

I use a MF mitt with ONR every day. I have never had marring issues. After all, MF is designed to trap dirt particles within the fibers so that the dirt does not scratch the paint. I have also found good MF can hold a lot of dirt within the fibers. Like everything else, use what ever works for you.

Thanks for the replys, next question is where is the best place to by Grout Sponges and or Sheepskin wash mit?

you can buy either GS at either home depot or lowes. do a search and you'll find plenty of discussion on the grout sponge...

if you go to your local kragen they have the viking wool wash mitts on clearance for $1.12!...

While we find your parts, please enter your ZIP Code at PartsAmerica.com

Go to Lowe's for the grout sponge, and get at least 2. One for paint and one for wheels. they are cheap, like $1.87, I think. And get the Proline sponge. Search 'grout sponge', you'll find plenty of info. I got my sheepskin wash mitt from DI Accessories Sheepskin Wash Mitt - Detailed Image I don't like the ones you get in a store because the 'nap' is way too short. The hairs (that's what I call them) on the ones from Detailed Image are much longer and I feel much better.

I've been reluctant to try ONR up here in New Hampshire bkz of the road salt, sand etc we have in the winter. Anyone out there from Snow Country that uses ONR?

Also, a wash mit seems to hold allot of solution--do you squeeze some of the solution out before you wash a panel or do you use it at full wetness?

Thanks!!!

I used a blue chenile MF mitt today from Target (Vroom brand) in place of my usual wool mitt and it seemed to clean better vs. the wool mitt. This was after taking it to the coin-op first though.

Time will tell to see how it holds up or causes any marring.

Well I'm in Kentuckiana, and we just recently had our share of snow/ice/rain/salted roads. Hopefully that's it. It's not too bad here, but I ALWAYS pre-soak the truck in ONR at QD dilution. And I pre-soak it pretty liberally. When I used a mitt to ONR, I did squeeze it out because it does hold quite a bit of solution. I now use a grout sponge and have to squeeze that out as well because it holds a LOT of solution.

i used sheepskin yesterday when i tested it out. AND I LOVED IT. I thought it was weird how the dirt stuck to the mitt... then i found out thats supposed to happen. I threw it in the washing machine and 30 or 45 mins later it was BRAND NEW!

I am in MA and have used QEW for a couple of years now.I have a black Lexus so it is a challenge to keep clean.I use a tank sprayer and do a pre-soak if it's pretty bad. One panel at a time with a sheepskin mitt and MF drying towels. I use a warm water bucket to rinse out the wash mitt. Works well, car is Zaino'd up so I usually detail spray after the wash. Clean wheels with a separate mitt. This is all done in the garage all winter. I see no reason for you to not give it a go. Good luck.

Thanks JT--do you squeeze the excess water out of the wash mit before doing each panel or do you use it fully loaded with water/ONR solution?
