MF lint

I tried the search and couldn't find the answer. I've washed my MF towels countless times and they always seem to have lint on them. I wash them in warm water with Dawn and have been letting them air dry. (tried the dryer and they seem to have more lint)

This has always been a problem with the cheaper (and some not so cheap) mf towels. I recommend you buy your towels from one of the sources recommended on this board. I've been using Neatitems and JT Intnl towels now for quite some time.
 
Try washing in hot water using regular liquid detergent then add about a tablespoon of distilled white vinegar per towel to the final rinse. If this doesn't clear up the shedding (lint) problem within a couple of washings then try new towel.
 
I have a black car and everything from the WalMart and Turtle Wax cheapies to the Meguiars & PakShak and experience no lint at all. Mine are machine washed ( by themselves ) in Dawn and air dried.
 
A couple of years ago on this board there was a lot of discussion about linting mf. At the time, the 'best' mf towel was the Miracle Cloth. There was a batch of them that came in that were leaving lint like crazy for some people and not for others depending on which batch you got I guess. Anyway, I've not had any linting problems for quite some time as I don't buy every mf I see anymore.

When I say 'cheap' I am not referring to price, more to quality. Any towel that leaves lint is cheap in my book, regardless of how much it costs. If it leaves lint, it belongs in the rag box.

I also wash them in Dawn, but I machine dry my towels until almost dry and then air dry. Seems to fluff them up but not add too much to the static like drying total dry in a dryer does.
 
Prinz, one thing to keep in mind though, all towels will shed (lint) at first due to fibers picked up in the cutting room when they are made. The trick is to get ones that don't shed after a couple of washings.
 
When washing you may be picking up lint thats trapped in your washer or dryer. Remember if drying in the dryer use the fluff no heat setting so as not to melt the mf. check your lint traps they may be the culprits.

I wash my micro fibre towels the way you allude to above and use distilled white vinegar to eliminate detergent residue.



A question for DFTowel: Why does it stop the fibres from shedding?







Experience unshared; is knowledge wasted…/

The vinegar doesn't stop it, the fabric should stop all on it's own if it's not being affected by some external abrasive source. The white vinegar simply allows the fabric to be thoroughky rinsed of all foreign material and allows the fabric to cleanse itself. And I HAVE NO IDEA how this works, :nixweiss this is an old trick used for generations. Something about the acidity I believe.
 
I use the Wal-Mart MF towels and I soak them in hot water and Woolite and then hang them to dry....seems to work great.
