MF at Canadian Walmarts

A Canadian member of Autopia posted about some MF available at Walmart in Canada recently. I stopped in there today to check it out. The MF is in the kitchen and bathroom sections. It's much better quality than the Microtex MF that is sold in U.S. Walmarts and Canadian Tire (same stuff).



There was a 20 inch x 40 inch terry type MF towel that was very soft and plush. Price $4.89 CDN.



There are a 27 x 16 towels going for $3.89. Not as plush as the bigger ones but still nice.



The best deal was a three pack of Waffle Weave towels. They are 16 x 26 each and go for $6.89 for a pack of 3 towels. The quality of these is as good as some of the waffle weave towels I have orderd on line. They will be excellent for door and trunk jams, wheels, and windows. These are the first WW MF I have ever seen available in a store in Canada or the U.S.



Interesting that non of this MF is in the car products section. I would never have thought to look in the kitchen or bathroom section.
 
Hmmmm very interesting.. I wonder if they have them here in the US. I may just have to visit Walmart tommorow to check it out.



Whats the currency exchange from CDN to USD?

The big question i have with all M.F.'s is whether it will pass the c.d. test.

Have you done this on any of the towels found, and if so, could you please report back findings?

I own about 250 -300 pieces of MF in all forms from wash mitts to apps to ww towels ect. NONE of them pass a CD test. In fact I have never found a single product that has passed. They all scratch if you look close enough in the right light. Some worse than others but all have scratched.



The test that really matters is will the towel scratch your car. Only one way to find out. I tested it on my hood and examined it under several different light sources. No marring. For the sake of comparison I tested it on a cd as well and compared it with my other MF. The Walmart Waffle Weaves performed the same as my Big Blues from CMA and my two Pakshak Waffle Weaves. Very light marring only noticeable with a flashlight beamed onto the cd from an angle.
 
I finally tried one of the ww's. I just rinsed and wrung it out, and used it to dry the car. Couldn't tell too well at first, but the next day in the sun .... well, let's just say it isn't pretty. No rubbing, just "drape" and pull for the first pass, then a wipe to get rid of the trails. Dried the paint fairly well. However ... The next day I noticed MANY swirls, all in the pattern I dried in.



It may have been just that I hadn't washed out all the sizing/starch before using it, so I'll likely try it again in the spring when I can re-polish if needed, but currently I'm going to not recommend these for paint drying. :(
 
Are you talking about the Walmart waffle weaves? If so that wasn't my findings when I used them. I can't tell the difference between them and my MF I order on line. Maybe it was because you didn't wash them first. It's not a good idea to use them before you wash them.



I'm sure there will be others who will purchase these towels and try them out . We'll see what results they get. I will purchase more for door and trunk jams, wheels, and glass. They are the perfect size and priced right.



The Waffle Weaves come in several different colors. The white ones were the softest and those are the ones I tested.

I have been real busy since i posted, Christmas and all, but i'm going to try and get to a walmart Monday.

I also will wash them and giver a go and report back.

Good point, stevet. I've found the same results no matter who's MF I've tested, I can consistently introduce minimal marring. The test involves rubbing a CD pretty hard & applying much more force than I'd ever use on the car.



IMHO, if you rub the CD with the same force that you'd use on the car I think that most, but not all, MF would be OK.



Any thoughts on exactly how hard you're supposed to rub the CD? Any general guidelines?

I had trouble finding the Waffle Weaves to. I asked the sales person and she pointed me in the right direction. They were at the end of the aisle as an end display.



Is the sports towel you are talking about the 20 x 40 blue one?

I don't know how hard anybody is "supposed" to rub a CD. I don't rub very hard at all.



Who decided that a CD was a good surface to use as a test? What does a CD have to do with clear coat paint?
 
I went to Walmart looking for the WW towels but couldn't find any. I found some other MF's for the price of 3/$6.89 but they weren't WW. I tried asking someone and got the usual deer in headlight look that you get when asking a Walmart worker a question :rolleyes:



I'll try another store, but I'm not going outside today, it's waaaay too cold...... -43c with windchill :eek:
 
I put the UPC on the other thread. Ask the person to look it up on their computer (or ask for a manager if needed). That way you'll see if they have any. (no guarantee they'll know where to look for it after, mind you.)
 
The brand is Select Edition and I bought all that my local Walmart had. They had the WW but I already have a Poorboys WW and it works great. I bought the 14"x16" MF Towels in Blue, and some in Yellow and they were $1.98. They are very plush. I saw the "Sports Towel" that some have comments on, but I went for the towels instead as that is what I have been using with success already.

I bought one that was 20" x 16" to have at the car shows for QD Spritz as well...looks like a great find. I have kept my receipt in case some one posts a major caution that we should all heed.

Picked up some mf's there yesterday too. I got the 3-pack of waffle-weave dish towels (in orange to match my car :D ) and a Sport Towel. Probably won't be trying them until Spring. I'll try and post some pics soon so you can find them too. Just look for the bedding/bathroom towel section.



Wal-Mart seems to have gone microfibre crazy. They now have mf's by Orange Glo, Vileda and a few other names I don't recognize. They also have mops etc.
 
When I washed the Sport Towel and it was soaked with water it was exteremely heavy - that's a good sign. I expected the waffle weaves to have a bit more capacity for holding water though.

I find the white waffle weaves to be the softest of all the colors they had at Walmart.

I use them for door jams, wheels, under hood and other things I don't want to use my good ones for.



I have never used Poorboy's WW towels so I can't compare.



They only cost $6.98. What do you have to lose? Most people use cheaper MF for dirty jobs like wheels and door jams.
