Metabo, anything I should be aware of?

Since that was me with the overheating issue, I should weigh in here. The more I use my Metabo, the more I'm convinced a lot of my problem wasn't just low speed, it was applying too much pressure at low speed. I was using low speed to be cautious and applying pressure as I would have with the PC. I do usually use it at 3 or higher now, but I do still use slower speeds for critical areas. such as buffing on painted plastic.

Velobard I was hoping you would see my post and jump in here. You were the only one I could think of that had a bad experience with the Metabo (heating). Believe me I thought about it, and still can't really come up with a reason for it, except for the relationship between the fan and the new motor, I am at a loss, but then I'm no Engineer:nixweiss .

Did you happen to call or email the company about this? I was going to do it but things have been rather hectic around here lately and I have just been putting it off.

Any way, how do you feel about the Metabo now that you have had some time to spend with it? Anything else come up that you find irritating are you just don't like?

Between "bare tool" price and "loaded" price I prefer "bare" price. Otherwise I am spending (it is part of price) for somehing I already have. How many cases I need if I have five tools? Just one. One that will fit them all in. If each one of them comes with their own case I would still need to buy a case because their cases would be able to fit just one, not all 5.

Me too. Except when I am in front of extension cord / outlet that has two prongs. Then they are in my way.

ZoranC:

I am not quite sure I understand your first paragraph/logic, but if you want "aLL" your tools in one box/case, you must be one dam strong dude. Hats off, there is no way in hell I can lift all my hand tools if they were in one case, Plus, I wouldn't want to take a drill/sander/router/etc, to a detailing party

Personally, I really like all my tools to have a fitted case from the Manufacture (the tool itself), I can keep them clean and know that they are ready and all the parts are in there case

. Components. I must admit I usually buy an after market case from someone like "Plano, etc,." to store things so they don't become scattered, I don't think anyone will argue that this happens, a case go's a long way to eliminating this.

Second paragraph/sentence: I have absolutely no idea what you mean/talking about, I can guess, but I don't guess when it comes to electrical cords and outlets.

BigJim, I believe what you are saying politely is the knot works, but is a PITA, leads to cable problems/breaking (not cool in wet conditions) and not something the manufacture shouldn't have considered and corrected in the engineering phase.

Fan speed is related to motor speed, so there's not as much cooling at low speeds. That was an issue when I was bearing down on while running it on 1. To be honest, I regret saying anything disparging about Metabo because I am quite happy with it, despite my ignorance on its use when I first bought it that led to my problems. It is a quality machine.

Bottom line, I like it and if I ever start feeling paranoid about how warm the machine is getting (hasn't happened for awhile) I can cool the machine fairly quickly by just running it at medium speed off the surface to let it cool with no load.

He's saying that when a tool has a three-prong but the closest outlet/cord doesn't, then it's a pain having to go find an adaptor.

Yup, tool with two prong will get into any outlet/cord. Tool with three prong will not.

I did not mean all of my tools. I too think it would make no sense to take my drill press when I go polishing. I meant all of my detailing tools. Cyclo, PC, rotary, vertical polisher (no practical use yet yet I have it in by habit), Brinkman light, plus I am tempted to add Metabo SXE400 and one can dream about paint gauge too. I would find 5 (6, 7) separate cases very impractical.
