Ready for Launch



Here are the latest photos of the next generation Mercedes CL-Class coupe. They are showing a prototype without any disguise, just a few strips of tape were removed by computer.



As can be seen, its styling this time will be much sleeker and more elegant - boot lid and rear end reminding somewhat of the Maybach - complete with a refined luxurious interior, technical equipment and visibly flared fenders.



Engines will be available in a range from a V6 3.7 litre to the V12 4.0 litre fuel units, and possibly also for the coupe a V6 3.2 litre diesel and a V8 4.0 litre diesel. The top of the line model is going to be the AMG version powered by a 6.3 litre V12 delivering over 600 HP. The photos are showing two more latest pictures of the AMG version in cold weather testing.



The new CL is scheduled for release in December 2006, the CL AMG is for launch some time later

If Kia was trying to make a Mercedes, it might look like that. I dunno, but that's terrible! It's definitely NOT what comes to mind when I think German engineering.
 
I don't like it. That design reminds me of a Camry or something. If I have a Benz I want it to stand out in a crowd, no blend in and I think that car will blend in.

Looks so mundane, no sense of style. Hopefully the production version will be spruced up (or better yet changed altogether!).



I think the BMW 650i coupe is much nicer for the price.

I think the rear is a little small. Like it comes to a point....reminds me of Jag rear ends..I dunno. It's not MB's look.....I think the ball was dropped in the style department. But who am I, I cannot afford one.........lol :xyxthumbs
 
Dear God in Heaven! What the heck, why has MErcedes styling gone to the dogs? The current cars are beautiful, but the new crop of crap design are just grotesque! Way to ruin one of the worlds premiere marques, I have lost my desire to own a Benz for sure now. And people say the Bangle-ized BMWs look bad? These abominations to the name Mercedes-Benz are 100x worse!
 
Agreed Chuck! I like the CLS but the R and the new S don't do it for me. I can't buy one anyway without taking out a loan on the house so I guess it doesn't matter eh? This car is just vanilla. Expensive vanilla but still.......

Those rims it reminded me of the 1999 Honda Accord EX coupe. :(
