I will be using them on relatively hard paint (mercedes, volvo).

Which would be better for the paint IP or OC?

Will they be strong enough or would a step up be better like OHC or Menzerna PG?

If I go with PG or OHC, which would be safe w/ a pc?

Thanks.

Both Safe. ON German paint I only use Menzerna. Optimum seems like a waste of tome b/c it takes too long to break down. As for what to start with....always with the least aggro first..then step up from that as needed. Instead of IP, I have been using PO106ff the most lately.

Thanks MachB5,

appreciate the reply. I get confused with the pros/con of these two highly talked lines that by the time I am ready to purchase I need more reassurances.

I have only used the Menzerna line. Their line up has served me well. PO85RD no longer made is fantastic. PO106 is still available at

You can get RE5 which is very similar to 85RD from http://smartcarcare.ie/. You'll have to buy in a little larger quantity but it works out to be about the same that we were paying for these products when they were being imported or even a little less. I got a 32ounce bottle of RE5 and 16 ounces of 85RD for about $70 shipped.

Does PG do well with a pc? I realize that I might have to get RMG to increase the work time.

How about OHC? I do not need to be dedicated to one brand as some etailers carry both.

SpoiledMan, yeah I got that as the next thing to buy (too much mula in one shot with the other polishes).

And I just ordered the whole OP line of polishes :sadpace:

Just don't be sad, because the Optimums are among the greatest polishes ever. They work beautifully with a DA, they work flawlessly with a rotary.

Use a lot less than usual, and they will be effective, predictable, producing gorgeous results.

Use OP with a finessing pad for fantastic gloss and use OHC with wool for a heavy, controlled cut. NO dust, infinite working time. Excellent products! :2thumbs:

I use OHC with a PC and it works very good. Good amount of cut and no dust. The long working times are both good and bad. Good if you want to work the polish long to remove heavy marring, bad if the car has light defects and/or you don't have much time. While OP is more versatile, I still think that FPII leaves the highest gloss on a PC. Not to say that Optimum doesn't leave a great finish, but it just doesn't have the mirror-like bling that FPII gives it. IMO, Optimum finishes down a bit deeper and wetter, while FPII finishes down bright and clear. I have Menzerna IP and don't really use it anymore, dust is horrible and isn't all that agressive.

I agree with Big Poppa. I use OHC sometimes to avoid getting out the PG and then do another pass with FPII. I used to get really bad dusting with PG, but I don't anymore, so I don't really know why I avoid it. I guess I learned how to use it and I'm afraid one day it won't work like it has anymore. In fact I had sold my PG to Sean T.B. and then I was like "Damn. I really need to learn how to use that." So I got another container, used it more often, and....Poof! Less dust. I HATE Intensive polish. It dust way too much and, even though PO106 dusts quite a bit, it works much better, practically haze free. Anyway, get some OHC. It's pretty cheap and works really well, then get some FPII to finish with. Before my post gets any more useless, I'm gonna st...
