Hi Guys,

After waitting for 2 months for my skyline to arrive from Japan i found that the roof and bonnet had real nasty acid rain spots left behind. I first tried Meg Deep Clean Body scub applied by hand and it did nothing :( I even tried the vinegar trick with no results. The marks are real nasty but i cant feel them on the edge of my finger nail so hopefully not all is lost. About a month ago i took the plunge and ordered a load of goods from Proper Autocare

PC 7424

A load of pads, yellow white grey and a wool disk,

Pinnacle Poly Clay Kit

Menzerna Intensive Polish

Menzerna Final Polish

Megs No 7

Blackfire All Paint Protection

Pinnacle Souveran Wax

And ofcourse a bundle of MF cloths

Im wondering whether the Intensive Polish will remove the marks maybe with the wool pad or the yellow cutting pad. Is this too abbrasive???? Does any1 have any other suggestions???

Many thanks

Gerry

Intensive isn't really as "intense" as it might sound. Try it with the yellow pad at speed 6. If this doesn't work, then you can try it with a wool pad, but I haven't really ever found the wool pad to be that great for anything on the PC. If that doesn't take care of the spots, then I would suggest stepping up to Meguiars DACP or something more aggressive in combo with the yellow pad. Good luck.

Even though you state that the spots are not palpable they still might be etched into the clearcoat. Is there obvious discoloration? Are they visible at all angles?

You probably need something stronger than what you have ordered. As Greg stated try the IP ( great stuff) than move up the abrasive scale ( DACP, 3M Light Cut, Medium Cut, Heavy Cut) than back down the scale ( re-establish clearcoat optics - gloss) when you find a product that resolves your water spots ( ? etching). Even with this regimen a PC may not be enough. A professional rotary or ScottWax session may be in order. :wavey

The spots are not visible at all angles! Does that make a difference in the removal of the spots???

I have some spots that are there from before I had a garage. I have done two passes with DACP and one with Menzerna IP. They were not initially visible from all angles, and are less visible now(pretty much visible under flourescent light at an angle). However, this shows it can be just as difficult to remove spots even when not visible from all angles. I'm getting frustrated with them and may try 3M FCRC.

Yes. True light ( not deep ) etching can not be seen at all angles and is normally noticed most when viewing the finish at an angle parallel to the same plane as the viewed surface. This best shows the topography of the surface ( peaks and valleys , surface and craters (etching) ).

Etching requires stronger ( more abrasive ) products and may not be correctable with just a PC in one polishing session.

Still waitting for my order of goods to arrive from Proper Autocare. Its been 1 month now so not too long to go. Once they arrive the car will go straight into my garage and taken care of.

Many thanks
