What are some tips on keeping the dusting down with the Menzerna line?



I used IP today and it looked like someone spilled sugar on my wife's hood!!!!



I did put some AG 360 on the pad with it and this helped.......a lot. I just don't want to kill the cut though.

I was wondering how to fight that myself. 106ff is great but IP is just the opposite. I just washed the car after I was done with it.
 
I do know of some mixing RMG (Red Moose Glaze) with some of the line. I just want to know the ratios. On Menzerna's chart, it say NOT to mix on the pad.
 
Everything I've tried to reduce the dusting changes the characteristics of the polish too much; changes cut, working time, or adds fillers (eg, RMG or FTG) so I just live with the dust. I do an IPA wipedown after I'm done with the Menz polishes anyway, so the dust goes away during the wipedown.
 
I'll deal with dust as long as performance is there--the Menzerna line will dust, but IMO will out perform anything on the market.



Adding a mist of QD to the pad will help a little, but you will still get dust.
 
When I add one spray of XMT pad conditioner, I get much less dusting...But it still dusts a lot...In the end, the dust is worth it the way this stuff works.
 
I have been using Poorboys S&W on my pads before using their own polishesa and it's helped a lot.
 
Menzerna seems to be finicky with either temps or humidity...when cool and dry here I get just about no dusting....when humid it dusts..so I just added a small drop of Opt polish on the pad...seemed to cut it way down...I tried XMT pad spray and it gummed it some and had polish balls on the hood...just a pea size of OP and worked fine..seen no difference in performance....just way less dust....

lol this may sound stupid, but is that dust harmful? i spent probably 6 or so hours on a car polishing with IP because i found myself wiping down the panel ever few passes cuz i was afraid the dust might cause swirling... The FPII was weird; it made these little balls like the guy above me was talking about.

I agree with SuperBee that adding anything changes the polishes too much. Even if it does cut down the dust there is still dust. Use less that you think you need. Less polish to break down and it still does the job. Try 3.01. If you can get that to dust I'd like to know how.:D
 
Ive been using menzerna going on a few years now, and I still get dust a lot of times, regardless of weather conditions. It tends to dust up a great deal for me during the very warm days when Im working in the sun. One day quite by accident, I mixed some optimum polish with some IP. The results were not only great on the car, but the dusting went down quite a lot, even in the sun. Since then, I've been using mixes of optimum and menzerna. I usually go 2parts menz to 1 part opt, but when I am working on an extremely hot and humid day, I will go 2 parts Optimum 1 part menzerna, or straight 1to1.



Oh I forgot to mention that I am using the original optimum formulas, as they tended to be more lubricant than polish/ compound, so there may be a difference in the way the work versus the newer formulas. But I dont think the difference should be very big. Also, I would suggest only mixing what you will need for a specific day or car, and mix very well. The old opt formulas were notorious for clumping but can be reconstituted with a few minutes of good shaking.

Weird, I've never had any problem with FP2 balling up. Maybe it's an issue of using too much. I use about 10 SMALL dots on the pad per section and work it in till it gets a bit clear.
 
I've noticed that a lot even in the UK, on warm days it tends to dust a hell of a lot more than on cool days or near the evening time.
 
The 3.01 or 3.02 does not dust like that.

I have in the past added 20% 106ff and that had helped with the dusting a bit and still has a great cut along with better working time and better gloss.
 
I overlook the dusting a bit because of the results the Menzerna gives. I tape everything up including any seems that might allow dust to fall into the hood seams, trunk seems etc. I then blanket the windshield and rear window with moist WW mf towels that I've used to dry the car after it's wash. Those steps certainly don't help eliminate the dust but keeps it out of some of the nooks and crannies and off the front and rear glass anyway. I also lightly dust each panel with a MF towel prior to working it.
 
Aussie gold showroom glaze. It looks like a QD but can be buffed on by machine, sprayed onto a panel thats had one horizontal pass done with any polish and not only will it extend the working time but the polish will not dust as much or at all.



Temp is an issue with Menz and so are the pads. IP dusts more with edge pads than any other
