I've been re-polishing my 2001 GTI (daily driver) this weekend using SIP on a 4" LC orange pad and a PC. Oddly enough, it now looks better than when I polished it a couple of months ago using #83 on a 6.5" orange pad followed up KAIO on a white pad. It seems less hazy now, and it looks pretty good as-is with just SIP.
I'm finishing up today with the 106 on a 6.5" LC white pad. However, there doesn't appear to be any difference from the SIP-only results. To use Nano Polish, I first sprayed a few shots of pad lube, then charged the pad with a 6" line. On subsequent runs, I've added 4 - 5 pea-size drops to the pad (like I did with SIP). I even made two passes over the same spot to see if there was a difference. Each time I think I'm spending about 5 minutes working the polish (I really like how 106 evenly breaks down).
This is my first time using Menzerna. I've been using speed 6 for all the work. Am I doing something wrong, or is 106 not going to make a noticeable difference on my paint color with (apparently) hard VW clear? If 106 isn't going to make a difference, I'd rather spend the next few hours using SIP to polish out some small stubborn scratches that I thought I wouldn't have time for.
FYI, my paint color is more of a darker / muted red, not a bright red. I had thought this would qualify it as a "darker" color and thus be recommended to step down to 106.
