Menzerna 106 on '01 VW matchstick red

I've been re-polishing my 2001 GTI (daily driver) this weekend using SIP on a 4" LC orange pad and a PC. Oddly enough, it now looks better than when I polished it a couple of months ago using #83 on a 6.5" orange pad followed up KAIO on a white pad. It seems less hazy now, and it looks pretty good as-is with just SIP.

I'm finishing up today with the 106 on a 6.5" LC white pad. However, there doesn't appear to be any difference from the SIP-only results. To use Nano Polish, I first sprayed a few shots of pad lube, then charged the pad with a 6" line. On subsequent runs, I've added 4 - 5 pea-size drops to the pad (like I did with SIP). I even made two passes over the same spot to see if there was a difference. Each time I think I'm spending about 5 minutes working the polish (I really like how 106 evenly breaks down).

This is my first time using Menzerna. I've been using speed 6 for all the work. Am I doing something wrong, or is 106 not going to make a noticeable difference on my paint color with (apparently) hard VW clear? If 106 isn't going to make a difference, I'd rather spend the next few hours using SIP to polish out some small stubborn scratches that I thought I wouldn't have time for.

FYI, my paint color is more of a darker / muted red, not a bright red. I had thought this would qualify it as a "darker" color and thus be recommended to step down to 106.

When you say you used SIP and then #83, were these the same, or different products?

You'll need at least two, and possibly more, applications of 106ff in order to bring your VW's finish up to it's maximum gloss when used with a PC. I normally do two applications of 106ff with a rotary to get maximum gloss.

You might want to try doing multiple applications in a small area, and compare the results to the rest of the car. I'd be willing to bet you'll see a big difference in gloss.
