If you're going there for work, why aren't they paying a stipend for your housing/expenses to help you out?
While you're there take a field trip to see the curve. I think it's up towards Topeka near the tree. I hear they used to have a hill too but it washed away after a light rain.
Can't speak specifically about the Wichita area but a seasoned old-timer who travels a lot advised me to look at a map and figure out what used to be the main highway before the Interstates went in, usually a US route. There's usually still an old "motel row", frequently with some family owned places. He always looks for what he calls NAS motels.... ie, "notch above scuzzy".![]()
I used his strategy on a few road trips and found some of the nicest, cleanest places dirt cheap. YMMV.
