Melted plastic on hood..now what?

A friend layed a DVD box on his hot hood and the printed plastic melted onto his hood. The area is about the size of a big apple.

Degreaser? Polish?

Any ideas on the safest way to remove it? It will be polished after removal.
 
Nothing tried yet. I will work on it this weekend.

He showed it to me in a garage but I didn't take pics.
 
Try an agressive claying. I think that might do the trick. I would be careful about polishig i think with the plastic it might scratch the paint.
