Melted Edge 2k Pads!! =(

i was just about finished with dacp/orange edge 2k pad on a benz when my pc got super wobbly and really hard to control. took the pad off the edge adaptor and squeezed to find that the backing plate in the middle was all melted and deformed =(.. as opposed to buying a backing plate and velcro pads, i just bought one of these to save money. it was supposed to be more versatile with its two sides and its durable durafoam. but now im actually wasting money because both useable sides and a backing plate are gone. i checked all of my pads and they all seemed to be in almost the condition as the orange pad but not as bad. overall im not really satisfied at all. i dont think im doing anything wrong. do you guys think so? theyve only been used on 2 cars before this, and i'd expect them to last a lot longer if not forever.. i need new pads ASAP but i cant really afford to put a bigger hole in my wallet. i think im gonna call edge tomorrow. if you guys have any tips or advise that would be great, thanks for listening... :sosad

contact whoever you purchased them from and tell them what happened. They should replace them. If they dont contact Edge products!

I agree ... contact the seller and they should make good on it.

Also, the makers of Edge pads maintain a vendor forum over at www.detailcity.org. You could make an inquiry there as well.

Call Aaron in the morning 1 800-315-3343 tell him what happen . I'm sure he'll want the old pad to see what happen and why . No doubt he will replace it .

I have the Edge pads as well and I can't say enough good things about them. I'm surprised to hear that the plastic plate inside your pads became deformed. I've never heard of this happening before. Do you run the machine on 6 and really lean on it maybe? I've done several cars with my new set of pads and they show zero wear so far.

As others have said I'm sure if you contact the place you bought your pads or Aaron at Edge I'm sure your pads will be replaced at no cost.

I know Aaron will take care of you no problem but havnt I heard of this happening before? If my memory serves me right I remember it happening a couple time to other individuals who ended up grinding into their paint? Maybe I am wrong.

Anyway talk to Aaron and he will make sure you are more than taken care of.

hey ya, i was applying light to moderate pressure at speed 6 maybe around 10-15lbs but nothing too big.. i thought they were supposed to take a lot more pressure than regular pads anyway. but thanks a lot for the replies and advise everybody. i will call aaron/edge tomorrow morning. yep.. thanks again!

I will jump on the bandwagon too and say contact Aaron directly. I had an Orange pad come apart, and he sent me another one, no questions asked. Very good guy.

Funny, my orange pad went out too and I got it replaced.

Just wondering how you installed the adapater on your PC , did you use a wrench on the adapater?

i only use the pc wrench to lock the adaptor and hand spin the adaptor onto the pc. but when it comes time to take it off, i usually have to use a vise grip cause its stuck on soo tight.

" However, lately there have been a few threads made on various forums with people having their PC's basically overheat or generate way more heat then normal causing problems with the unit and pads (some machines were reported to start smoking). So that could be the case." -surfer from detailcity.

does anybody know more about this? i think this might be the case.. when changing pads, i usually have to use a mf towel over my fingers to push down on the edge adaptor cause it gets so hot that it burns your fingers..

Agreed, need to look into this. I've moved up to a Rotary for real paint correction, running the PC @ 6 for 2 hours really kills. IMO The PC is a perfect Glaze/Wax applicator and should be run at a maximum of speed 5.

If your running a PC so hard that it gets to hot touch : 1 Something is wrong with it . 2 Your running to hard for to long . If your have no intention of ever getting a rotary you should think about getting another PC so you can give one a break . Try not running it on 6 for hours on end. :buffing:
