Found a good price for Meguires pads and backing plate.

I seen them pads at a local auto store and i was just wondering if you would be able to use the 8" Meq's pads for a PC or are they just normaly used for a rotary??
 
I would order from Dwayne, and with the 10% Dc discount the price is within a few cents and you would be supporting this great community.

I would stick to pads under 6.5" in diameter for the PC. Due to the power need to spin a larger pad.

definately try and stay with 6.5" pads or smaller on the PC. It doesn't seem, at least to me, to be good to put the added stress of spinning a larger pad on such a small motor.
 
I kinda thought that. Just wanted to see what some of you suggested. I was just wondering because them are the only pads i can find around here other then that i have to get my pads online.
 
I use 7.5" LC Advanced pads on a 7336 with 6" plate with no problems.

Perhaps this is because they are variable contact pads as opposed to 6" LC pads that are flat or the 6.5" LC pads that are cupped.

yea, I have to get my pads online. Unless I feel like ordering them through a shop and then paying a bit more. I just order from Dwayne and then get my 10% and end up spending more money then I should :(
 
I forgot to mention that PAC has the 7.5" LC Advanced Contact pads at special clearance prices of $5.95 each
 
I seen that PAC has them on sale debaiting weather or not to buy somemore. I bought some from ScottP a few weeks ago. I used them for the first time this past weekend and liked them but had a little problem with them flying off of the backing plate while i was using them on the PC. I was set at a speed of 5-6 and they started to wooble and then BAM there they go flying across the yard. I am using a 6" backing plate too. Anybody else have this problem?? What did you do to reslove this issue?? NYV6Coupe where are you located in western new york??
 
Yes I've had many velcro issues with those pads! I may order some again just to try but they just do not seem to stick to the 3 6" backplates I've tried with them.
 
I have no problems with the 7.5" pads flying off the 6" backing plate. The design of these pads almost guarantees that the pad will be centered on the 6" plate (which is actually 5-7/8") & this is very important.

Also, the velcro attached to these pads is secured much better than the LC 6" & 6.5" pads so I'm expecting better durability from the 7.5" pads.

Is it possible that the velcro on you backing plate is worn or dirty? Are you using a 6" plate?

I'm new at this so I limited speed to about 4 with any product.

When using the PC, are you placing the pad on the paint, turning it on & working the product, then turn it off before removing it from the surface? If you do this, I don't think the pad can fly off.

I know this 'cause I was using the PC and, when I turned it on nothing happened. I saw the extension cord had separated from the PC's power cord so I put the PC down (pad facing up) and plugged the cords together.

The PC immediately started & the pad flew off like a frisbee. I was luck it missed everything & ended up on the lawn so it went in the pad wash bucket & it's time to mount a new pad.

Yes i am using a 6" backing palte and it is clean. I do put the pad on the surface first and then turn the PC on. What happened is that i was working witht the PC on 6 trying to correct some scratches and the pad started to wobble first and then when i went to turn the machine down i let up on the pressure a little and then it went sailing into the wild blue yonder. LOL. After that it happened to me once more but i caught the pad in time before it took off and then just worked with the PC on 5-5.5. There really isent a 5.5 its more like 5 then fast 6. Im from Niagara Falls but live in Youngstown with my brother now. Not far at all from Lockport 20 min. drive. Usally go to Lockport to shop.
 
I purchased a dozen of the 7.5" advanced pads that PAC has on clearance (got the DC discount on top of the sale price too!). I love the design of these pads and was delighted to be able to pick up another batch at such a low price.

I've never had a problem with any type of velcro PC pads flying off, and I've been using a PC for over 2 years now. I had a couple velcro separation problems with some original Edge DA pad designs, but even then they didn't go flying off the pad.

The majority of my PC use is between speeds 3 and 5.5. I use speed 2 for spreading products, and very rarely speed 6 for scratch removal. I always have my pad resting against the surface when I turn the machine on or off. I use a 6" Auto Quip backing plate and a 6" PC counterweight.
 
I have tried brand new and used 6" backplates (both PC and LC brand) and brand new and used pads.

None stuck well, especially the slightly used ones. It had nothing to do with how I operated the PC, they just would not stick to each other. I finally gave up and am using the E2k system right now since LC customer service is a joke. These issues have happened to others in the past but because 95% of LC users are happy with their pads, the issue does not get much attention.
 
I bought my backing plate from TOL 'cause it looked thicker & kind of squishy and forgiving. It's also made by/for Porter-Cable.

I think this backing plate combined with the new LC Advanced Constant Pressure pads would be idea set-up for someone getting started with a PC. I may look into them when the pads I have wear-out.
