Meguiar’s

This weekend I used these three products on my truck.

Meguiar’s #6 Cleaner/wax

Meguiar's #7 Show Car Glaze

Meguiar's Gold Classic

I don't know if this is the correct way to polish but after I used number #7 I noticed a light oily film that required a little more muscle to remove. I was wondering if it was the way I applied the wax or am I using the wrong steps here.

Thanks :wait

I had the same problem when I used Mequiar's. The film just seemed to smear around when I would try and remove it. It went away after a good wash though.

I used the Gold Classic after #7 and I still noticed the film. Does that mean I have to wash again?
Wouldn't that defeat the purpose?

I noticed it all all of the produts I used from Mequiar's. Mostly on the three step products you buy over the counter at most parts stores though. I just noticed the hazey smearyness was gone after a couple of washes. I have no clue why this happens.

When #7 was developed, it was intended for single stage paints. It will work on BC/CC finishes, but like you have described, it is harder to remove. Meg's #81 hand polish will give you the same results, but it was intended for use on BC/CC finishes and is easier to remove. Also, just my 2c, I would use a dedicated cleaner if you intend on following up on your third step with a wax or sealant.

Instead of using #6 use another product at the beginning or at the end?

It's not going to hurt anyting, but if you intend on following up your regime with GC, why use a one step cleaner/wax to prep. I would use a dedicated paint cleaner, followed by a hand glaze and top with carnuba.

I use Glaze before I put on my Wax
Steps
1. Meguiars DACP
2. Swirl Polish if neccessary
3. Show Car Glaze or Machine Glaze
4. Natty Wax, S100, Mullet Wax or Souvran

I'm lost now. The #6 shouldn't be used often and it should be a different cleaner?

Thanks

I was just remarking about how #6 is an all in one product, designed primarily to be used as a one step solution. It contains both chemical paint cleaners and a carnuba wax. If you are going to be applying other products during this process and another carnuba as a topper, why not use a dedicated paint cleaner that does not contain wax, followed by your glaze the GC. If you like it, use it. I was just curious.
