Meguiars Ultimate Protectant

Flashtime, Here is the thread I started over at Meguiars on UP. Michael Stoops from Meguiars replied with some info as well.

Ultimate Protectant issues - Car Care Forums: Meguiar's Online

In that thread it was suggested that UP probably worked better on neglected trim since it doesn't have other protectants on it. Well maintained trim would have been protected and even though you think you cleaned it well there probably is still some product left on the trim causing the issues with UP. Makes sense to me. I will have to give the trim an extra thorough cleaning than apply UP like the Megs rep suggested and not buff it after applying.

Just use UTTG and be done with it.

Thanks for the links ford150.

Cleaned first with HD Total (15:1 ish). Then again with 303 (30:1 ish). Applied MUP with a foam applicator pad (just like in the video).

Same results as before; blotchy...

Apparently, i'm not skilled enough to use this product correctly. i'll try again (still).

I just don't know why you would need this product on interiors--a regular dressing seems fine. Conversely, interior dressings don't seem to hold up at all on exterior surfaces, where the UP seems to do pretty well in comparison.

i personally don't care for the "look" of most interior dressings. It should look OE... Anyhow, here's part of the description:

No longer do you have to settle for protectants that last only days. Utilizing break-thru UV clear coat technology, Meguiar's® Ultimate Protectant offers superior UV protection & shine that significantly outlasts conventional protectants. ...

"Superior UV protection" is the reason.

:werd:

if you want oem looking use 1z cockpit or put 303 aero then buff off well. both have UV protection. i dont think UP has much more UV protection if at all than 303 in case ur worried about that.

u gotta remember, some plastics just plain suck. like 350z doors. u could have a contest on trying to protect that evenly in 1 pass.

Plastics can be difficult. But MUP has been the most irritating to use. Ain't giving up yet. My car is next. Again...

I know better. But, sometimes, its fun to get caught up in the hype.

Flashtime,

The only thing I can figure in your case is that your interior trim just does not like to play nice with UP.

But for others it works very well, myself included. Heck I've even applied it over the top of an old application without cleaning first (just a light dusting) and it still looked great. My exterior mirrors and windshield cowling are just now showing that I need another application. What's it been... 4 weeks and 2 washes, with several rain days thrown in. I'd call that durability.
