At one of Meguiar’s classes, Barry dropped by to chat. Somebody (RCBuddha IIRC) asked about Floyd. Barry told us the story from his perspective.
Floyd was Barry’s cousin. Floyd and Barry’s grandfather, Frank Meguiar Jr., the founder of Meguiar’s, had a lot of kids.
Barry is younger than Floyd and was a teenager when Floyd was active in the company. At that time the company was run by Floyd’s uncles, Maurice, Kenneth and Malcolm (Barry’s dad).
Malcolm was responsible for all chemistry formulations at that time. He had taken over that responsibility from Frank Jr., and continued in that role for about seventy years, until he retired and handed the reigns of R&D over to the present head, Gary Silvers.
Barry told us that even though he was just a kid at the bottom of the ladder he learned a lot from Floyd. He always felt that Floyd had great talent for sales and marketing and interacting with customers.
Apparently at some point Floyd had a very clear vision of the direction he thought the company should move. When he was unable to convince his uncles to take the company in that direction he decided to strike out on his own.
PC.
