Meguiar's pc???

artman4life

I make yo ride bling!! :)
my local Mac Tools guy came to work this week and was tellin me he will have a meguires brand DA polisher which happens to be made by porter cable he says. lil over $200 and lifetime warranty/guarantee. showed me a pic of it and it looked pretty much identical to the 7424, except the meg's name was in place of pc's name. any1 have more info bout this polisher, what differences between the 2? i been wanting to add a pc to my line up with my makita but havent made the move yet and with my local tool guy, i can make weekly payments rather than all the money up front.

Re: meguire's pc???

There isn't any difference from what I have heard but IMO you'd be better off going to Lowe's and paying $109 for a PC7336 rather than $200+ for the same machine just under the Meg's name...

Our sponsors have the PC here for much cheaper than your local tool guy and will even come with a backing plate.

But if your concerned about the lifetime guarentee, then the $80+ difference is up to you....

A lifetime guarantee is worthless on a machine like the Porter Cable 7424. Mine has been in heavy use for several years and is still going strong. I'll probably get a new one just for asthetic reasons before this one wears out. It is looking pretty ragged, but that doesn't affect performance.

DetailCity.com has a pretty good deal on a PC right now. It comes with the Edge 2000 attachment. Even if you can get the machine cheaper somewhere else, it won't be so much cheaper that it will offset the value of that adapter. About $120 is as low as I've ever seen the PC 7424 anywhere on the web. coastaltool.com has it for that price. eBay would be your next best bet if you are looking for something cheaper.

thanks for the info guys, looks like i'll prolly be adding this to my line-up now, i can pay weekly on it if i buy from my local tool guy so that makes it easier for me, plus if something would happen with it, i can hand it to him and he will take care of the problem, just simpler than having to send ti out somewhere or whatever and now i just found out a local parts store can get me edge pads so im sure i'll be stockin up in the near future :)

That just brings back bad memories. I was totally tool addicted and just had to have my fix. The weekly payment thing was great at the time but it just scares me now. I can however say that I do relate. There was a period of time in my life, quite a few years that I was able to declare the Snap On Tool dealer as a legal dependent on my income taxes. :) I'm sure that single handedly I was paying his mortgage, feeding his family and putting his kids through school. Matco, Mac and Cornwell to a lesser degree. Man, people think Crack Cocaine is a bad addiction. It is nice being able to get the tool replaced when he comes to your shop.

 You know, usually I wouldn't disagree with you, but you're so dead wrong on this one that I can't help it.

A lifetime warranty is worthless on the PC? Perhaps that's why my neighbor has gone through TWO of them in 6 years, and I'm about to get mine replaced for the first time (I've had it 5 years) -- and all of this for free through Meguiar's.

The bearings go bad in them to the point that they bog down at any speed, and won't even attempt going above about 3.5 on the speed dial. So yes, they DO burn up if you run them hard enough and often enough. And no, we don't abuse them -- but they are in use for at least a couple hours on a daily basis. My neighbor uses the PC exclusively, which is why he burns them up faster than I do (I also use a rotary, so it takes some of the wear-and-tear away from my PC), but I've got mine to about the point that once winter gets here and it's too cold to work, I'll be sending it to Meg's for a replacement.

So... it depends how you use it, but from first-hand experience, I can tell you that it IS beneficial to have the warranty if you're doing any kind of serious detailing for customers on a regular basis. For the most part, mine sees extensive use at speed 6 every time I pick it up; I'm sure if I were just using it to maintain my own vehicles, it would rarely hit that speed, and thus wouldn't likely wear out as fast.

If you've had yours and have been using it heavily for "several years," I challenge you to pick up a brand new one and try it side-by-side with yours. I can pretty much guarantee you won't be comming back here and telling me you couldn't tell a performance difference.

Re: meguire's pc???

The Meg's G100 is the same PC (Porter Cable 7336 / 7424) polisher with the addition of the lifetime warranty (which is nice for some people). The PC 7336 and the PC 7424 are also identical machines with the exception that the 7336 comes with a sanding disk that's not included in the 7424, otherwise they're identical kits.

The Lowes deal at $109 is very nice, but it can be sweetened further by getting the Lowes 10% Mover Coupon...google it ;).

You can also get these polishers directly through Porter Cable right now at their special price of $119.95 with $6.95 shipping and you can also buy these same polishers as reconditioned units directly through Porter Cable for $99.95 and they too carry their full PC 1 year warranty.

Don't forget to check the site sponsors here because they have some great sales going on right now, especially if you need to get a machine with pads, backing plates, polishes, LSP's, and other goodies. Buying a combo package can save some money when accounting for the savings through sale prices + free shipping + no sales tax.

With a little shopping, you can get a PC 7336 for less than $110 with tax through Lowes. Autogeek has the Edge dual action 6 inch kit on sale right now for $94.99 (regular price = $151) and you can get another 10% off the $94.99 sale price using a detail city or autogeek coupon. So for about $200, you can get a new PC polisher and very nice assortment of 5 different dual sided edge 2000 quick change pads with a free adapter, pad cleaner, pad conditioner, 2 cobra edgeless mf's and 2 cobra 70/30 mf bonnets. For $200, this is a  deal.

In spite of the weekly payment that is WAY overpriced. You can get the PC, all needed pads, and a ton of polishes/ waxes for the same or less. Not a great value but if that's what fits the budget, that's what fits the budget!

You can even get another G100 for about $150 from Auto Detail Supplies.... or get the whole sha-bang with the PC and pads for the same as qadsan said....

I'm on my 3rd PC, and in hind site, I wish that I would have purchased the one from Meg's. IMO it's worth the extra $$.

If you are only planning to use your PC a few times a year, then I'd probably go for the 'best deal' option.

both the Meguiar's and Griot PC's have a lifetime warranty! both are basicly a PC7424, the Meguiar's package comes with a backing plate and one W8006 pad. the griots machine comes to you the same way a PC 7424 does

EDIT: the griots site stoped listing the 7424 so they may no longer offer the PC or maybe you just have to phone them

I just received my megs's pc last week, and I must say I am glad I got a pc to my arsenal, I only have the megs softbuff pad for it right now. Used the softpad and opt polish on a customer car at work and it turned out awesome. 1st went over the car with our light compound at work with my makita and green edge pad. had very minor swirl afterwards and the opt and the pc took care of the swirls with ease and in short time. time to build a pad selection for the pc and play/experiment more with it!!

Congrats on your purchase! The PC is a great tool!

If you use it daily (or close), you will use the warranty, and Meg's stands behind it 110%.
