Meguiars NXT Tech Wax - Durability?

I have bought a five year old ford focus with the paint in decent condition. I have used canauba paste wax for the last year and liked it. Last weekend I bought some NXT b/c I do have swirls and the bottle said it would reduce them. It did but on the net are different opinions about the durability of NXT. The bottle of course says that it creates a strong bond and outlasts many other products. The opinions on the net differ from 2 days to 2 weeks. Some advise to put a final layer of canauba over the NXT to enhance durability.
Anybody any experinece with NXT durability?

Since I usually don't leave my vehicles alone more than 4 to 6 weeks, I can't comment on long term durability.
I did use NXT Tech Wax, (liquid), for close to a year and never felt any need to apply it oftener than my usual 4 to 6 week intervals.
The vehicle was driven every day and in some tough Iowa winter weather. It was garaged nightly and washed whenever it was dirty.
IMO, the NXT is a better product than most people give it credit for.

Two things I didn't care for.
1. I felt it made the red paint on the vehicle appear darker. Not necessarily a bad thing, But if I had wanted a darker red, I would have bought a darker red to start with. :)
2. It can leave a white residue on some black trim/rubber.

It definitely deserves more respect than it gets. With the limited amount of experience with the product, I'd say that it lasts about 2 months on a daily driven car that gets parked in a garage over night.

I used NXT when it first came out a few years ago.
I don't know how long it will protect but it sure lost the gloss very quick.
I applied it once a week on my vette because when I washed it the gloss was less than when fresh.
I'm trying to use the two bottles that I bought rather than throw it out so since it has some cleaning I use it on my door jambs. I don't use it on anything but the door jamb.
I regard it as one of the poorest sealants available.

i found the car looked really good after nxt, but the look was gone after a few days

you could consider polycharging it? if the polycharger does what it claims it should make for a nice product

Same opinion as above.....it's a good "filler" synthetic wax (great for hiding scratches/swirls), leaves a lovely finish, but doesn't have the durability of other Carnuba waxes.

I've switched to Mother's Carnuba wax. It's real great value for money (cheaper than the NXT), and actually lasts.

If you still wanna use the NXT, I'd do what other's suggested and finish off with a coat of carnuba afterwards.

I'm like Charles in the fact that I seldom actually see how long a product lasts. I just don't wait that long in between full details. I have NXT and have used it quite a bit when it was reformulated. It looks pretty darn good. There have been many discussions about layering the product and it seems the most general consensus is that it doesn't layer on top of itself. It's cleaning ability puts you back where you started and it isn't the longest lasting product on the market. Topping with a good carnauba was where I found success with it in the looks department.

As others have indicated it reduces swirls by filling them. Eventually as the product wears off the swirls reappear. No substitute for a good polish and actually removing them. I'm not trying to steer your thread away from the product you've mentioned when but looking for products with similar characteristics UPP tops my list, might be worth a look down the road. Few products are as slick when applied.

I really like NXT. I think it will last you a couple of months and it looks sharp on every color I've tried it on. Scottwax and I both agree that there is nothing that can touch it on dark blue. I usually start using OCW at my first wash so I dont know how long NXT will go by itself. I hear that M21 will last you longer.

I wouldn't necessarily go that far, but it is a very good OTC product.

Well I did what was suggested (NXT topped with S100 Canauba). It looks good. Let' s see how long it lasts.

Thanks for the help:thanks

Another good product that doesn't get much comment.
I used Klasse AIO as a prep and S100 Carnauba for the LSP for a year or so and thought it looked very good. It lasted the 4 to 6 week interval between waxings with no problem.

Yeah, isn't it! I found it per coincidence on the internet, when I was still a total newbie to detailing! Later I read that it was mostly used for bikes. I have no idea why.

Ive used it and it's not too bad. I dont have that much experience with the other brands. Ive only used stuff I can get from Kragen. Being in a small town and all thats all I can get. But its not too bad.

I used to be a a HUGE Meguiar's fan, I still am to some extent. I never liked NXT that much, although I can't put my finger on why. A lot of people say that NXT is the consumer version of M21, but I just think that M21 is better ( for no apparent reason). I never find myself reaching for NXT, even though I have 3 or 4 bottles around the house. I ususally let others use it on their cars as it is a great one step "filler" product.

if i recall most stated Nxt tech wax whether liquid or paste lost it gloss in a few weeks, they also felt since it loss it gloss there no protection not true...21 is NXt on steriods as i heard once someone mention....if you were debating only between these two then p/u the 21.....as far as durability if you want to add durabilty PolyCharge it...

How would you polycharge it?? Its a newbie question.

What you say is true but since you could put on a coat of Duragloss 105 and it goes on just as easy and removes just as easy as NXT or #21 and lasts for months longer and costs much less you got to ask yourself why do I want to use NXT.
NXT looks good when you put it on but the gloss is lost in a week or the first wash which ever comes first.

Mothers FX syn wax will outlast NXT even a good carnuba will last as long as NXT.
I like the look that NXT provides for the first 24 hours but I think it is the poorest sealant made.
Try poorboy EX or DG 105 or any other sealant and you will have much better durability.
I have and use several Meguiars products and like them but Meguiars laid a turd when they put NXT on the market.

I am kind of getting over NXT too. It's not bad but it does far less than it says and I have to cover it with s100 to give it durability. So, yes, why bother? I will still use up the bottle, but after that I'll try something else. I like my little can of s100 more and more.
