Meguiar's NXT 2.0 Tech Wax

Picked up some of this stuff Saturday. Advance Auto parts had buy one get one free. I tried out one coat and I'm seriously

impressed. My car took the serious beatdown with winter this year and it was nice

to finally get out and correct what it did to my paint. After the clay bar I went thru

and used 3M Rubbing Compound. After that it was CarBrite Black Pearl #4.

I have one coat of NXT on top of that. I plan on doing another and then topping off

with Collinite 845.

Seems like it takes a lot to make my car look nice.

This was worth it.

feels great to get out and do spring clean after a rough winter huh? even down in Florida when it warms up it just feels better. Of course the pollen is a !@#$.

NXT has an addicting smell and is super easy to use.

Are you sure you don't want to hit it with another coat of NXT first?

Actually, I do plan on 1 or 2 more before the Collinite 845 goes on.

I found an Ebay seller for the Collinite for $13.25 shipped!

Glad to hear that you're happy with NXT 2.0 Ronnie. Personally, I'm not too impressed with it. I bought some quite a while ago and used it a few times; all it does now is sit on the shelf collecting dust. Have you tried Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Wax (UQW)? It looks great, is very easy to work with and seems pretty durable. I'd be hard pressed to think of a reason to use NXT 2.0 over UQW. As far as OTC products go, it's pretty great stuff. I'm a dedicated PS man myself, but UQW looks just about as nice. Much cheaper, too :2thumbs:

I wouldn't try to layer NXT because it has cleaners in it. You'll be taking off more from the previous coat that you're putting on. Also, as a general rule of thumb, if I want to layer/mix waxes I start with the stinkiest one first, meaning Collinite in your case :). If you want to mix layers of wax, I'd leave the NXT as it is and then add a nuba wax on it. NXT is more like a sealant wax, like Colly.

While I dunno about layering NXT, I wouldn't worry about the "cleaners" being the problem (if there *is* a problem at all). If the "cleaners" (scare-quotes intentional) in NXT are so mild that they don't strip stuff like a Meg's "Pure Polish" then they shouldn't strip a cured LSP either. Now whether NXT does a "like dissolves like" solvent-action thing (independent of "cleaners"), well, that I don't know :nixweiss

I agree with Mike Phillips that it's easy to over-state/over-think the "cleaners" in NXT, even though it might appear readily apparent at first blush. Some ingredients that might seem to prevent layering can be included in small quantities without actually compromising layering at all. Consider that Autoglym SRP contains both fairly potent chemical cleaners *and abrasives* yet it can be layered if you do it right (my first-hand experience confirms Autoglym's official position that this works).

Somebody outhta do a quick layering test with the NXT and determine this one for certain...easy enough to do.

Oh no...you're not seriously talking about lighting that bonfire again???

Heh heh, I don't mind relighting the "layering" bonfire now and then :D

I mean, really...it's easy enough to effect the requisite controls and determine yes/no.

Sigh....guess I ought not be an agent provocateur, what with the world having enough drama in it already :o For some reason the whole layering thing can be a...uhm...red cape to me. [Note to Self: work on that.]

I currently have a coat on my new car. I think it looks nice and should please the crowd that it is intended for. On *my* car it looks a little better and is a lot slicker than either Collinite 845 or 476. It is possible that extensive buffing of these products will reveal a better outcome. The dumbed down application goes to NXT.

I should add that I am sure a durability test would be in the favor of Collinite. I had great luck with it on my Silver Subaru. Thanks to Accumulator, I tried this on that car and it looked wet for months. It just does nothing for my current ride

I am going to go for broke and order some Wolfgang sealant 3.0. It sounds like it has potential to work well on this paint.

Yep. My pal made me use it on his Jag because it gives the look the concours judges want to see on that paint. Gotta play to the audience.

I felt the same way about Collinite on my DenaliXL. Much to my surprise, when I repolished it (not that it was bad before by any means), the Collinite suddenly looked *super* with bright popping flake. For some reason the Menzerna 106FF that it was polished with previously just didn't prep it right for the Collinite.

I have that in my arsenal too. I would suggest saving your money.

I have the detailer and the polish from Wolfgang as well. I'm not impressed

with the whole line.

I was thinking about trying it out too. What didn't you like about it?

Well, I bought the Wolfgang/Pinnacle combo last Spring. It came with the paint cleaner, sealant 3.0, detail spritz and the 8oz of Pinnacle Souveran. For the money I spent it wasn't anymore impressive than the cheaper stuff. I don't have any complaints on the Souveran. But once it's gone, I will not be replacing it. I can't see spending the money on that alone. I've used others that look as good, if not better. The spritz didn't wipe off very well & streaked on 3 different cars.

I have PS too. Although I think it's great, it's definitely not worth the $$. Maybe it's an acquired taste.:grinno: I find the Wolfgang sealant to be quite pricey too. I'll probably still get it since I'll be getting a $30 credit with Autogeek after taking the Meguiar's Detailing class. Can't think of anything else to get from Autogeek right now.:nixweiss

I really don't mind the look at all. I just think that I can get a bit better gloss. The flake denies me of the true mirror look. It looks like it has a silver glow from the flake in the Garage. I have not seen it in the sun.

After using ulimate compound, swirl-x, adams revive polish (looks like a glaze) then nxt on one panel and collinite on the other I could see and feel a difference. Nxt just look better and was much slicker.

Poop. I had only read good things about this. I thought it might give me some depth. Poo again.
