Meguiar's New Tech Wax

The funniest thing about showing this product to people, is showing it to people who have been around detailing for a long time. Some of the guys that work for me have been in the biz for over 15 years and they are smoked by how dramatic the results are after using Tech wax - they all accuse me of playing some kind of trick on them. It's amusing to watch everybody's faces as they see the results for the first time - it's as if they just had instant plastic surgery, they have this permanent look of surprise and everyone's eyebrows are raised way up high on their foreheads... lololol

I am curious about the swirl filling abilities of nxt tech wax. How long does this filling effect last before it washes off, where the swirls become noticeable again?

Well,

I'm sorry to say I have an answer to that question.... Prior to today I always preped the cars as good as I could before applying the tech wax. Today Instead of make the finish as flawless as possible before waxing I decided to test the wax on the car raw - meaning only washing and claying. The car had light swirls all over. After applying the tech wax to half the hood I couldn't believe my own eyes - it looked much like all the pictures Mike Phillips has aleady posted - pretty darn good!! Amazing if you will....THEN, I decided to use final inspection on the side I just put the tech wax on...... the swirls started to show through a little bit when compared to a section that had tech wax but had not been wiped over with final inspection. It still looked better than the side that had now wax, but not as good as where it had wax and I had not wiped over it with final inspection. So then I decided to just spray a waxed section with pure water and wipe it down with a microfiber towel - I got the same result as with the final inspection - it had lost some of it's depth of color and started to show some of the swirls. If I had not had an untouched section to compare and contrast it to - I might not have noticed that it was losing some of it's magic - but side by side with an un-waxed section, a waxed section, and a waxed section that was wiped off with water/final inspection and a microfiber - and I could see it was losing it's luster :-(

It is still the best of the best when first applied - better than anything out there that I have tested - But get it wet and wipe it down and it starts to lose it.

For spectacular shine, depth of color, and swirl filling it is on top of it's game. And on test cars that I have waxed and let sit for weeks and just dusted - it still looks fantastic - but once you wash it - if you have not cut ALL of the swirls and scratches with compounding and polishing beforehand - they start to show back up. Water still beads, the protection is still there, but the swirl filling starts to go, right after one wash.

The durability of the swirl filling abilities may be in question.....:nixweiss

That's what I was afraid to hear.. :( I would've been suspicious if nxt tech wax users say that it lasts indefinitely, but I am disappointed to hear that the filling wipes off so quickly.

I've a bottle coming in any day now so I guess I'll get to see for myself, too.

Thank you for your evaluation! :xyxthumbs

Does any product have long lasting swirl filling abilities?

ProTouchNJ,

Had the layer of NXT that you were testing on had an opportunity to cure, or were you wiping with FI and water shortly after application? Given that NXT is supposed to be a "pure" polymer (as opposed to a synth/carnauba hybrid), it may need some curing time for its swirl-filling ability to become durable. I wonder, if you had waited to QD for 24 hours or more, would the reduction in swirl filling still have been as noticeable?

Please note, I'm not slammin' on your test, just trying to figure out if the apparent low durability of the swirl filling is just the nature of the product, or if there's something we (as users/consumers) should/shouldn't be doing to the finish to improve the longevity of the fillers.

I've noticed similar results to ProtouchNJ however I noticed the swirls reappearing after 3 - 4 weeks and several wipes with FD. Mike did mention to me that Nxt requires at least 24 hours to properly bond before any QD is used, although he did mention the QD developed for the Nxt should be safe. Haven't tried the Nxt QD so I can't comment but in 2 weeks I'll have the opportunity to try the entire line and I'll post my thoughts.

Either way I still feel that Nxt is one of the best appearance products I've ever had the opportunity to use and the gloss and reflections stick around for a long long time. Those that are getting their samples I'm sure will realize it's not hype.:)

I just called Megs and was told that the New Tech wax was in stock and that they would ship today, YAY!!!!!!!!!! lets see. I'll keep ya posted. I should be working on the car next Friday as I took the day off to go to the dentist in the a.m. and will be detailing in the afternoon.

Tort,

That is a great question, I asked myself that same question shortly after my last posting and am currently testing that theory.... I will share the results with you when I am done. As for if I still think it is a great product - absolutly!!!! It shines and gives the wettest looking finish I have ever seen on anything. I have cases of it and will be using it, as well as the rest of the NXT Products. Just got the Spray wax, wash, and protectant in the mail yesterday and will let you know after I test them as well.

I never took it for a slam - after all, that's what this board is all about - sharing ideas, opinions, thoughts, and then opening them up for debate and adding your own .02¢ to the mosh.
