Meguiars Gold class wax

Hi guys,



Anyone here using Gold class liquid or paste wax? A friend of my was kind enough to pass me some and I used it with an orbital today.



I was pretty happy with it at first, goes on and off easy, except for the dust and the staining of the trim if I'm not carful.



But after 2 washes with NXT wash, there is little or no more wax left and the paint squeaks like hell.



Anyone here experienced the same thing too? I prep the surface with DC #1 and #2 before applying gold class.

I used to use Meg's Gold Class all the time. I agree it goes on well and immediately looks very nice but is a bit difficult to remove. The worst part is it's lack of durability. Unless you want to wax every 4-6 weeks, it's not a what you'd call very long-lasting wax. So, as of about a year or so ago, I started using Zaino with much better results. As of earlier today, I bought the Klasse twins and the Solus Spritz to try that combo out.



Looking at the Guru Reports information about Meg's Gold Class, it agrees with us about the lack of durability saying that the 'downward spiral' begins around week six. It also mentioned that it seemed like it was "bonded to the paint" (when trying to buff it off)

Good so I'm not the only one that is having problems with durability. I used it on my black Honda and it just doesn't last over a week in my case.



Going back to Zaino...whenever I can afford more of it, I'm running out of the product (been using it on my truck).



Is there any other product out there that is easily sold in the stores and can be applied by hand (no PC buffer) and lasts, until I get around to Zaino?
 
I don't know about durability as I haven't used Meg's GC Wax until this past weekend, but as for application and removal My experience was GREAT. I spread it on thin using the PC and a grey pad, working it on at around setting 3. went on quickly w/ complete coverage using very little product and came off w/ a simple wipe of the MF.
 
Is that the Meguiars that comes in the red bottles, in a 3-step system? I used to use that. It was decent for the price. I would normally compound the coatings over a few months, and my build up would last. It is decent wax for the price.

No, no...it's this garbage. Meguiar's does shine as well as Zaino, but doesn't protect it as well, in fact it protects as well as this Togo's sandwhich I'm eating right now, wrapping inside the paper bag, and dipped into a swimming pool.

No, don't use it for durability

If you want to top something and give it a great shine, this stuff is pretty good.
 
I must confess the scent of Gold Class sends tingles down my spine. I love the initial slickness and look of Gold Class paste BUT it has subpar durability in my opinion.

Aha!!! Its cleaner-wax!!! They should ban that stuff!!!!



J/K,,...some people actually like it. Its great for cleaning cars!:rolleyes:

For something closer to Zaino, try Meguiars NXT. I quit buying Zaino when this came out. I put it on and top it with GC.
 
I know I will get flack for this BUT with ALL the great products out there (online ) I would never use Goldclass again I hate the product but that's just me.

No, it doesn't. The Meguiar's carnaubas are #16, #26, and Deep Crystal Step 3. All of these (and GC) are wax/resin blends.



Meg's philosophy is that cleaner waxes, or at least waxes with cleaners in them, deliver the best results to the widest range of consumers. I agree. For a HUGE swath of consumers, this is the best way to go. I use cleaner waxes during the summer months when I don't want to do a 3-step or 5-step. I like the Meg's DC Cleaner Wax, myself. You can do a lot worse. #6 is pretty nice, too, with durability of about a month.



GC is formulated to sheet water rather than bead. It takes a lot of flak in the durability tests for this... BUT.



The greatest testimony to its lack of durability is the deafening silence from those who would defend it. I'm a Meguiar's devotee through and through, but that puzzles me.

Maybe i don't see it, but i'm holding the bottle in my hand and i don't see anything about a "cleaner" wax. Just car wax
 
I do really like the shine from GC wax, but the durability really is poor. I recently started using NXT and really like it.
 
I have to agree with the others. Great initial shine but durability isn't very good and I don't like the trim staining problems either. Like Tom said, for a quick one step when you want some more shine and don't have time for a 2-5 step process, GC is pretty good...just expect to wax again in another month or so.



I much prefer NXT.

hah...more like a week in my case. I wonder if I can return the product to Kragen's?



I thought the guy talking about it being a "cleaner wax" was joking, yah it's a wax dude...hehe ;)

It has mild cleaners in it. The only Meg's waxes that don't have cleaners of some kind are DC Step 3, #16, and #26. Again, there's a very valid reason, and it's not bad, nor good, it just is. It's important to know, too, so that you don't apply your GC after 23 layers of Z or KSG and undo all that work.



If you need to find out for yourself, use it on a car without a base/clear paint job.

:LOLOL: ...in any case, it's garbadge and I'm off to Zaino, I just need a bit of time to put it on. I guess I need to re-Dawn the vehicle? or can I just apply what i have ontop after I wash the car?



By the way thanks to all of you with your help :) .
