Meguiars Gold Class Trim Detailer

Just had a customer yell at me because of this stuff. For whatever reason it "turned to goo" and won't come off. I haven't seen the car yet. They just want to fix it themselves and i told them to use a rag with some soap & water but apparently that didn't work.

Any of you guys ever experience this with this product? i must have used this stuff 100's of times and never once had a problem with turning into anything.

I'm about to go throw this stuff in the garbarge.

Did they put it on, or did you put it on?

Might have to use a light rub with some rubbing alcohol to strip it off. If they applied it did they put just way way too much on?

I put it on. And no i actually used very little thinking when i was done that i shoudl have put a little more on.

Will rubbing alcohol hurt the plastic trim? It's a new BMW btw.

I have never had that issue with the Megs GC TD. Did they buff it off with a cotton towel after applying??? I tend to do that to prevent running when it rains. I use it all the time on my 300zx trim with great results.

Could it be perhaps, since this is a new car, that they noticed some caulk or other sealer that was overapplied or oozed out, and blamed it on you since you just detailed the car? I find it hard to believe that GC stuff, while not my favorite dressing, would "turn to goo and not come off".

wait a minute, YOU put it on?

Obviously, you didn't have any goo when you returned it... I'm anxiously awaiting an update once you look at it.

I've used GC. Its pretty but has very weak durability.

a little goes a long way. i squeeze about a dime size drop on a foam applicator, spread it around evenly & thoroughly and that's more than enough to do one of my black plastic exterior mirrors. after i dress my tires, i go back and buff off with a soft cotton towel. haven't had any probs, other than applying too much when i started to use it at first.

I bet they parked somewhere and goo got onto their car. GC trim detailier never stays on permanently. It's water-based and even rain will cause it to wash off the trim.

I'm just as curious as you guys... like i said before i've been using this stuff on many cars for a long time without ANY problems whatsoever. And yes it is water based so there is NO REASON it would become a "GOO" and "NOT COME OFF" lol.

All i know is that the customer is pissed. I'm trying to get her to come by the house but she keeps saying she's busy. (i'm not mobile...they come to me) I really want to see what the heck she is talking about.

She called again last night and said that a rag wouldn't work so i told her to try the rubbing alcohol or just some soap and water. I have yet to hear back.

Could it be that this stuff somehow changed viscocity in the cold weather and for whatever reason turned into sap on her car?

Yeah i put it on. And no it looked great when the car left. Doesn't make sense. She said it was like someone spread a thick maple syrup on the door trim and won't come off. She keeps saying i ruined her car.

Yeah i'll try to get some pics of it too.

I'm just pissed that i'll end up losing this customer over this. (or other potential clients if i get a rep for putting road tar all over peoples trim) .stupid.

The killer is i did it for 1/3 price because she is a relative of my girlfriend.

I think definitely you should grab a couple of supplies and make a house call. I'm 99% sure this "goo" is probably not something you put on the car, but more likely some road tar she got on there afterward.

ROFL!!!! ahh you crack me up. (my plan to slowly piss her entire family off is working..) lol

yeah house trip seems inevitable. what should i bring with me to remove this mysterous goo?

Maybe i can save some in a jar and have it analized CSI style and see what it is.

For Best Results: Shake it up! Using a microfiber, terry or foam applicator pad, apply Meguiar’s Trim Detailer evenly to a cool surface, preferably working in the shade. The product will provide a nice satiny glow while nourishing the surface. If you feel that the shine is too much, wipe away any remaining residue with a clean towel. Apply a second coat if needed.

I think I'd go ever there before she start putting draino all over the car trying to remove the mystery substance. I doubt if the product went south on you. Even if it did I don't think it's even capable of turning into a tar like substance.

I think I'd bring some QEW in a spray bottle, some wash soap, some bug and tar remover, a bottle of rubbing alcohol, and some different vinyl protectant. If you make the house call you'll probably save this customer and a couple more.
