Meguiars G110v2 users - Question on Cruise Control feature

My take was the cruise control feature is similar to the forced rotation of the flex. I like the concept but for cost and pad reasons wanted to stay away from the flex. Thought the G110v2 was a great alternative with it's cruise control.

Looking for feedback on my thoughts above to see if that's actually true. Does it work like forced rotation thus aiding in a little more cutting action over a standard orbital?

I ask because I ordered a G110v2 on October 3, Amazon showed it in stock when I ordered but alas had none of them. I'm still waiting for the order to be filled and based on conversations with Meguiars directly it doesn't appear as though it's going to be filled very soon. In the last two weeks I've had two of my PC 7424's die, both are in for repairs and both are also waiting on parts. I'm down to just my DeWalt rotary and a single 7427 right now.

Just trying to figure out if I should cancel my order and get another 7424 in my hands or if it's worth waiting for the G110

The cruise control is most definitely NOT like the forced rotation of the Flex. What it does do is allow you to put more pressure on the machine without stalling the pad, but you cannot polish off-axis with the edge of a pad in the same way that you could with the 3401. I do like the cruise control feature and it's not something I would give up, but it's no miracle cure if that is what you're after. Here's a demo I shot with me putting the majority of my weight down on the machine and it's still spinning, but it's only spinning because I'm keeping the machine dead flat to the surface. If I were to tilt it off-axis at all, the pad would stall.

That said, one other thing you might consider is picking up a Dynabrade DA attachment for your DeWalt rotary. That will turn it into a DA with a 3/4" stroke length and that DOES offer some cutting advantages in some situations.

Dynabrade AbrasivEdge - Buy Abrasive Belts, Sanding Discs, Flap Wheels, Wire Wheels, Grinding Wheels, Air Tools, Dynabrade Tools, and More Online!

The Dynabrade accepts any DA backing plate, but I have found that the smallest pads you'll want to use with it are 5.5"

Thank you for the feedback.

To be completely honest I have no problem with how my 7424's work, I've perfected my technique with surbuf, MF and foam pads and don't really feel the need for anything more out of those machines other than possibly getting them to work quicker (never ending battle with an orbital right?). Just figured that the new Meguiars machine might have a slight edge in the category so I ordered one to see what it was about.

At this point I may just order another 7424, they're effective and cheap. I try to keep two running at all times one with a 5' backing plate and one with a small backing plate so I don't have to be constantly switching them out I can just pick up the other machine and keep working. Having two broken and working with just one reminds me how much I dis-like changing out the backing plates all the time.

Dynabrade on like a cheap harbor freight rotary might be a good medium I suppose, Gotta keep the standard backing plate on the DeWalt for regular rotary duties.

I concur with Charlie!

I think you will find bad apples with any of the 3 DA polishers (PC, GG6, G110v2). However, I can say that both of my PC's have been great from day one (ones 6 years old the other 2-3), though down on power compared to the GG6 and G110v2. The Griots unit however I have gone through 3 of them in about 6 months, and my next unit will definitely be the G110v2. It may not have the raw power of the GG6, but it's definitely more than enough to do the job and the build quality is much more solid IMO.

I think this may be the case with mine. I've talked with Chad before about my disappointment with my G110, but watching Charlie's video has me thinking mine has issues. I can't come near putting that much pressure on mine without it bogging, even with 4" pads. I know someone who had power cord issues and fixed it himself, shortening the cord in the process. It seems like now his 110 just kills mine. I might try that to see if it helps any, it's out of warranty anyway so it can't hurt to try.

Personally, I think it *does* have a slight edge over the PCXP; I've never had or used a GG6 to compare it to.

That's actually how I've got mine set up right now too -- on a HF rotary. It works fine, and the best part is the adapter and rotary combined cost significantly less than any of the other DAs; especially if you already have a spare backing plate. Just another option to have on hand.

Is yours the original G110, or the v2? I know there is a bit of a difference between the two relating to the bearing which could also be contributing to what you're experiencing....

Mine is a V2. It was sent as a replacement for my first V2 that just died after only a couple of months.
