Meguiar's # 80

Help! I have a dumb question...Can Meguiar's #80 Speed Glaze be applied by hand, or does it need to be used with an orbital buffer?
 
Meguiar's Professional catalog lists both #80 and #83 as being for:
Method of Use
Hand, Orbital, D/A Polisher, Rotary

Sounds like it can be done, but it will require some effort. A small area probably won't be too bad, but I don't think I would want to do an entire vehicle by hand.

An online search probably won't turn up the Meguiar's Professional Catalog anyway.
Searching is a great tool, but you can sometimes get too much information. Much of it conflicting.
When in doubt, just ask.
You will still probably get too much info and much of it will still be conflicting.:)

Just one thing to add. Swirl removal by hand is not easy.

Thanks Charles! I actually have another question.. What is the difference between the Meguiar's Professional series of products and the Meguiar's Medallion series? The descriptions that I find are similar.

Thanks for the heads up on trying to use the #80 by hand. I've been afraid to invest in a PC for fear that I will TRULY mess up a car... I do hear that it saves time and effort, though. Should I take the plunge????

The Professional line of Meguiar's products are geared more towards professional use.:) By that, I mean the Pro line is quite often more aggressive and intended for specific uses.
The Medallion series is also an excellent line that I used for years.
To confuse you just a little more, Meguiar's also has a "Detailer Line" that is geared towards still another market. Not to mention their Marine and Industrial products.
I don't claim to understand Meguiar's philosophy since it seems to me that they have a lot of overlapping products. Obviously, it works for them. They seem to be masters at marketing.

As far as your investing in a PC, if you plan to do any serious swirl removal, I would highly recommend it. I put it off for some time, but can't even imagine not having one now.

When i use #80 via pc it is not hard to remove at all. Im sure there are certain factors that may affect removal ie. humidity, temp, application.

Thanks for the information - I can see how people will be confused with all the overlap in products. And how can I refuse such enthusiasm regarding the PC? I think I'll start looking into getting one soon (can you see my knees shaking?). Is the PC better than any of the other brands out there (i.e. dewalt, etc)?

Probably not any better, but IMO, it falls into the "Best Bank for the Buck" category.
It is not terribly expensive, does a good job, and there are lots of pads available for it. Even a carpet brush. (Which I don't have)

#80 is my default polish this year. It does a good job at everything and it's cheap. Even though it has fillers, they last a long time. I did my truck two months ago and it's just now starting to show very minor cobwebs. I also did a Harley's fenders/sadle bags by hand and never had a problem wiping it off. I noticed this is a humidity sensitive product and works better when it's cool and dry, which is why there may be problems with it wiping off.
 
Waxxy- you will NEVER regret buying a pc. YOu get better results faster! You can get them from our sponsers or check amazon.com thats were i got mine. It was really cheap too.

the 7336 is just the sander version. Same machine, but comes with a sanding pad and paper. I dont think mine came with a backing plate.

Mine didn't, but it did come with a screw on polishing pad that works better than most people give it credit for.
I don't think the 7424 comes with a backing plate, either.

Can you guys give me a list of things that I need to buy to make this thing workable? I'm hearing about a backing plate that I need to get. Is there anything else? :doh
