Meguiar's 6.5" pads w/ 6" BP??

it was my first time...
I want to know if there are any negative effects in using the Meguiar's 6.5" pads with a 6" BP?? On the vendors site it says in the description, Meguiar's 6.5" should only be used with a 5" BP. I really don't see any logic in it, and i'm wondering if they recommend it so you go out and buy their 5" BP. The Meguiar's pads are a little larger than the CMA pads, so they give me a little more clearance for my 6" BP which I like. I'm just curious if anyone using this setup has had any problems?

Probably because the 5" BP on 6 or 6.5 " pads sets back enough from the edges that you won't cause the BP to damage the paint or trimif the edge came in contect with them . Does that make sense?

Wow thats interesting, I really didn't think i'd encounter problems like that. I guess that little edge of the pad is what gets damage. My LC pads are pretty much flush with the BP. I guess thats why i've never encountered damage like that. I guess i'll just stick with my LC pads, haven't really had problems I was just looking to try something new.

I've done it on many Megs pad's , never had any problem's.

No I have some LC pads that are 6.5" , but only have a 5" velcro area and my back plate has a 6" velcro area. I'll see how that hold's up but should'nt be a problem either.

A lot of it will depend on how much you use the pads and how much pressure you apply to them while buffing.

Yep, and if you use them damp(even a little bit) it will eat them up.

I have both backing plates, but with meguiars pads, I use their BP.
