Meguiars 3-step -- application question.

I detailed my car the other day (3 year old WRX). I'm selling it soon, but I wanted some practice with my new PC, and it needed the attention.

I went down to the local auto parts store and picked up the Meguiar's 3-step Deep Crystal system (cleaner/polish/wax).

My question is about the cleaner. I know that it's a chemical cleaner, not an abrasive... but I applied it with the PC and an orange pad anyway, and surprisingly it did a great job in removing all the spider webbing. Deep scratches weren't affected, but I didn't really expect them to be. Should I have applied this cleaner with the PC? If so, would a finishing pad have been preferred?

Applying with the PC is fine and yes a White LC polishing pad would have probably been better. Not as harsh. Assuming you are talking about a LC orange pad. But i am certain since it worked and did what you wanted it is also ok to use. The Meg's Deep Crystal 3 Step system is a very good product but the polish can be very hard to get off. I used that system for years until i steeped up to the professional line of Meg's and then i found products that give the same results and are way way easier to apply and remove.

Thanks, I figured.

Actually, I skipped the Meguiars polish and ended up using some Pinnacle I had around. The weird thing was, it refused to dry even after an awful lot of polishing, so I eventually just wiped it down. Came out well enough, but I think I'll try the Meguiars polish next time. Really didn't like the Pinnacle.
