Meguiar's #21 Synthetic Sealant?

I had a nice talk with one of the Meguiar's reps this past weekend (Jim Lawson) as he had a demo tent set up at a car and motorcycle show I was attending at Sparkle Auto in Garden City, KS. He was doing product demonstrations on a Ford pickup and I walked over, introduced myself and stated that I had spoke with Mike Phillips via MOL, etc. He gave me a few pointers on PC technique and I told him I had a car that was a testbed for all my different products. He seemed very curious and asked what all I had on it, and I told him everything from Zaino to One Grand and listed off Poorboy's World, Mother's, Finish Kare, NXT, etc. I told him I was really pleased with the new NXT paste and that it's hard to beat when you factor in ease of use. He said he had something I might like and gave me an 8 oz bottle of the #21 synthetic sealant and told me it basically NXT on steroids, with even more fillers and better shine.



I haven't tried it yet, but if it is in fact an even better version of NXT like he claims, I will love it.



Any pointers, tips/tricks when using this product? How does it do over a glaze?
 
#21 is a favorite of mine. It's really easy to use. I've been applying it by hand with a handigrip foam applicator, let it sit for 15-30 minutes and it wipes right off and looks great.



The biggest problem with it is that they only sell it by the half gallon. I got a 12 oz 'sample' at autodetailingsolutions.com
 
I believe Mosca had some durability issues when applying NXT or 21 over a glaze, it was on MOL a while back.



I found both NXT and 21 to be very easy to apply/remove. I just didn't care for either of their looks; They didn't seem to have the "pop" that other products give me.

Which sealers are you comparing it with?
 
sounds good, i might make this my middle step after i run out of my current bottle of NXT. Better and cheaper are two things i look for in a product.
 
I had an interseting talk with the guy at my local Mirror Glaze store. He said there is no difference in there Hi Tech yellow wax and any other carnuba wax, including Pinnacle or Zymol or PS21. Also he said that putting more then one layer of anything on is a complete waste of time. Also said it doesnt do any good to put on more then one type of product, like a wax over a sealant. I didnt argue with the guy, he said he had been working for Meguires for 35 yrs.
 
How does it compare to Megs Polymer Sealant #20?



It seems to me for a nice one step one for those two(21 or 20) would be great.

As the saying goes don't believe everything that you hear. Did you ask to see what he was driving? :rolleyes:

A 7 yr old Camry, it was white. It looked ok from a distance, but I didnt go out and give it a close up.

IIRC, 21 is deeper, 20 is more reflective.



20 has more cleaning power (still mild)



21 is better at filling/hiding swirls
 
Here's a fun activity. If you lay a thick layer of #21 on a piece of clear wrap, when they are both dried #21 actually forms a peelable film!
 
Meguiar's doesn't make the distinction between "wax" and "sealant" that we do here. They call NXT a "wax" even though it contains no wax, it's a synthetic product. The general public is looking for "car wax", if they went to WalMart and NXT said "sealant" people might pass it by on the shelf.
