Meguiar’s NXT Tech Institute - June 26th

The following is a special announcement (Trumpets, please!). It pertains to the second of two kits available to you, should you decide to attend the Inaugural NXTti (iNtense eXtreme Training Tech Institute).

Ladies and Gentlemen, allow me to introduce to you the NXTti Machine Wetsanding Kit!

The star of this system is is the air-powered MB26 Mirka Bulldog. This little fella features an ultra-tight orbital movement, specifically engineered to deliver a very consistent leveled surface. It's compact size and variable-speed make it a breeze to use on complex surfaces (e.g.- cowl, pillars, compound curves).

My source at Mirka (Mark Willie) tells me that this is the anchor of their Fast Finish System. I have used it extensively, and can tell you that it is a real confidence builder! If you've never wetsanded, you'll be surprised at its ease of use. Are you an expert at wetsanding? Try this machine- You'll catch yourself nodding in appreciation of its capability.

The MB26 Mirka Bulldog is included in the NXTti Machine Wetsanding Kit, as is the appropriate backing plate and a special interface pad that adds flexability for contoured surfaces.

The folks at Mirka are in the abrasive business, and they produce some of the finest products in the world. Two of my favorites are included in this kit- The Royal® Grip Disc and the Abralon® Foam Grip Disc.

Royal Grip Discs are velcro-backed paper discs designed to be used wet or dry. The NXTti Machine Wetsanding Kit kit contains both 1200 grit and 1500 grit papers. Personally, I prefer to use Royal Grip Discs dry (no soapy water) in most cases, to avoid a hydroplaning effect. This drysanding technique allows for fast and consistent cutting. Another amazing benefit of drysanding with this paper is incredibly fast evaluation of the paint surface (paint looks shiny when wet vs. dull when dry). This paper is designed to resist paint load-up, and cleans easily (simply run it across one of the included Meguiar's Microfiber Ultimate Wipe Detailing Cloths).

The Abralon 6" Foam Grip Discs are also velcro-backed. However, they are made of foam rather than paper, making them very flexible and surprisingly durable. Mark and I have decided to partner both 2000 grit and 4000 grit discs in the kit (that's right... 4000 grit). You are going to be floored the first time you use Abralon on a curved surface- No gouging, and no worries!

I could go on, but you'll be using the complete system at the NXTti!

While the NXTti Machine Wetsanding Kit is very capable, we decided to also include a small arsenal of Meguiar's Unigrit® Finishing Papers. You'll receive all six grades of paper (1000, 1200, 1500, 2000, 2500, and 3000 grit), 30 sheets total. Meguiar's Unigrit® Finishing Papers are remarkably consistent and very long lasting. Many top painters and detailers consider Unigrit® to be the finest wetsanding paper available. A Meguiar's E7200 Sanding Backing Pad is also included in the kit. It's stiff yet flexible, and helps to deliver equal pressure across the paper while sanding. I decided to include a pint of Meguiar's M00 Hi-Tech Wash, to help lubricate the paint surface while keeping the Unigrit® paper clear of debris.

Your MB26 Mirka Bulldog doubles as a Random Orbital Polisher!

Therefore, we've included one Meguiar's W7006 6.5" SoftBuff Cutting Pad, two W8006 6.5" SoftBuff Polishing Pads, as well as two W9006 6.5" SoftBuff Finishing Pads. Your muti-logo embroidered black duffle bag has been equipped with the finest compounds and polishes available - Meguiar's! A quart of M85 Diamond Cut 2.0, a quart of M83 Dual Action Cleaner/Polish, and a pint of M09 Swirl Remover 2.0 round out polishing duties.

As with the other available kit, we've included an additional pad, a W8000 8" SoftBuff Polishing Pad to be used exclusively in conjunction with the two M9930 8" Microfiber Ultimate Bonnets.

Yes, and yes. The Meguiar's Shop Apron is included. The PES101V Power Polishing Video is included, too.

I may have enough room left in the duffle bag for a couple more items, which I've listed on my next post. This is a super-complete kit though, and I want YOU to enjoy it!

Hope to see you there! Kevin Brown

Here's an update on the NXTti Machine Wetsanding Kit!

I have added to the kit a pint of M84 Compound Power Cleaner. I have been saving these bottles for a good cause, and the NXTti is it! Should you come across a paint defect that requires a little extra oomph to eliminate, reach for this bottle.

I've also added two neat accessories to be used when you want to utilize (via hand application) the Mirka Abralon 6" Foam Grip Discs.

The half-round soft hand pad comes is useful when you want to hand wetsand a compound curved area (such as the the bent-bulgy area of a hood, or a even a metal dashboard in a hotrod). This pad looks like a flattened taco shell. Simply wrap your velco-backed foam grip disc around it.

You'll also receive a round flexible hand pad. It has a strap on the back to fit over your hand, and is very thin. It also accepts the velco-backed discs. I like to use it to run the 2000 grit and 4000 grit Abralon discs across difficult to sand areas such as plastic headlight lenses, cowl vent areas, or anything that's curved and painted!

See you in Oxnard! :bounce

Wow! There is tremendous interest in NXTti!

I am excited- We already have some forum members commited to attending the Inaugural NXTti. Others live too far away or have prior engagements to make the West Coast's Inaugural NXTti a reality- And we will miss you!

If you're still undecided but are seriously considering making the trek to this incredible event, read on.

I have been getting all kinds of questions about the training via e-mail and phone.

One question keeps arising regarding the Instructors - "Who are these guys?" Allow me to inform you.

JASON ROSE :bow

Jason Rose is a secret weapon.

Watch out for this guy. He's a proficient detailer, a stellar rep for Meguiar's, and delivers a knockout sales training. His specialty is problem solving. You'll be hard pressed to stump him regarding paint care issues. Take it from me as a distributor and dealer of Meguiar's products- Jason is a guy you NEED on your team. You will not meet a better person, nor a finer Industry Representative than Jason... I have tried!

Should you decide to attend the Inaugural NXTti, be forewarned...

If you're not careful around this man, you could really learn something!

MIKE PENNINGTON :bow

Mike Pennington should be renamed Mike Pinnacle!

He is the guy that others aspire to be in regards to all topics relating to car care (myself included). As the Director of Training for Meguiar's, Mike has literally taught thousands of enthusiasts at his Car Care Clinics (myself included, again!). Just how good is Mike Pennington?

Recently, I had the pleasure of working a training seminar with Jason Rose. He really connected with the class of students, and many of them thanked Jason personally for increasing their knowledge. I just had to compliment his performance, and I did. What was Jason's reply?

"If you think I'm good, you should see Mike Pennington."

Wow! How's that for a compliment? Come to the training. See Mike. Be like Mike. That's why I'm going!

MIKE PHILLIPS :bow

Mike Phillips is a machine. He must be. No human can possibly keep up with this guy. Although his official title is Meguiar's Internet Technical Specialist, he does so much more than his title implies. If you're an avid internet forum reader (as am I), you already know of Mike and his incredible depth of knowledge.

Recently I talked to him for 15 minutes on the phone. I thought to myself, "I'd better get off the phone now, because Mike is so busy, and I've already had him on the phone for - Eek! Four minutes!" That's right, Mike was able to fit 15 minutes of chit-chat into a four minute segment. Now that's efficiency!

I have been detailing professionally for 20 years. I know a good detailer when I see one. Without question, Mike Phillips is in the top one percent of all detailers in the world.

You will be BLOWN AWAY by the 'Encyclopedia of Car Care Knowledge Formerly Known as Mike'!

MARK WILLIE :bow

Mark Willie is an international type of guy. As a sales rep for Mirka Abrasives he's trained people in Finland, Mexico, and many other exotic locations (and you thought only movie stars lived such a magical life!).

For the past two years, Mark has been an integral part of our Meguiar's Booth at the Goodguy's West Coast Nationals. Mark is cool under pressure, and understands that most enthusiasts are very nervous wetsanding for the first time. We've invited him to the Inaugural NXTti to calm your fears.

Together, Mark and I have sold well over 100 Mirka Fast Finish Kits, not to mention a countless amount of Meguiar's cleaners, polishes, and waxes. Mark has always been available to answer follow-up questions, and he'll be available to you, too.

Mark Willie? Or won't he? That is the question. For the answer, come to the NXTti!

Notice of cancellation

I'm sorry to have to announce to everyone signed up for this event, (or thinking about attending), that the NXT Tech Institute workshop scheduled for June 26th is cancelled due to conflicting schedules.

It is being rescheduled for another date possibly in September.

We apologize for the cancellation, and hope to confirm a new date as soon as possible.

Hmmm... this reschedule might actually work out for me. I'm getting married in August and get back from my honeymoon early September. IF.... (big if) there's any money left over, maybe just maybe I could swing the trip down. If not, I guess there's always next year.

BTW, is it ok to be an out of towner that flies in for this course? ie. you're not required to show up with a car of your own to work on are you?

Although I suppose if I had to, I could practice on a rental car.. :D
