megs new 205 effecting smoothness

Hey everyone! Just tried megs 205 today. I must say it is a very nice product. But I noticed that where I have used it the paint is not as smooth as it was after I used it. I was wondering if anyone else noticed it or if maybe I am doing something wrong. Other than that no complaints.

Not sure how that is possible...



Only thing that comes to mind is that if you wet sand a surface it can give the illusion of being softer than a polished surface due to the reduced surface tension.



I find the M205 to leave an incredibly smooth surface...



Did you do anything else that might be causing this?

That is how polished paint should be. Squeaky clean, no slickness, as there is nothing on the actual paint to make it slick.



It is less slick now because any product that was left behind before the detail (making the surface slick) is polished off.
 
That's one of the things I like about 105/205, they don't seem to leave anything behind. After 205 the paint isn't slick at all, just squeaky clean. That's as opposed to say, SIP or 106ff that obviously leave something on the paint.
 
After putting it that way it really does make sense. The only things I have been using on my car are sip and 3m ultrafina. Thanks for the help I was juust wondering why is didn't feel the way it did when I would use those other products. Although I still like sip a tad more still but now wonder if it has filling abilities or sillicones or somthing. I'll look into it.
 
SIP definitely fills. Now don't take that as me saying SIP is bad, it isn't bad, it's a great product - but you have to use it with the knowledge that it can fill. I've seen it fill quite a bit, not just light holograms but RIDs. It's easy to show too; just take a white LC pad on any soft black paint (BMW e90/e92, any Infiniti, most Honda/Acura, etc...), polish the hood @1400-1800 rpm, you'll get great correction; stick the car in the sun and watch the holograms appear as the oils in SIP evaporate.



I still use SIP a lot, but I use it for what it's intended for, as a light to moderate cutting compound. Finishing with SIP almost never works on anything but the hardest paints.



205 doesn't have quite as much cut as SIP (ime), but finishes better overall. 205 still doesn't finish down holo free on soft paints (again, ime), but at least you don't have to guess with it. Every product has it's place. :)
