Meg's Detailer Line Wash Soaps?

I'm rather confused...

I've been using NXT wash and I've been happy with it. I need a more economical wash soap so I've been looking at the Meg's Detailer Line.

If anyone has any input as to which of the wash soaps would be the best, please recommend one. I'm not sure which of these would be the best choice in terms of slickness and would have the most water softeners in it. (I have hard, lime/mineral water).

Hyper Wash

Shampoo Plus

Super Soap

I don't know where you are, but if you like the NXT, buying Gold Class at Target should be more economical ($11/gal). The smell isn't as nice as NXT tho.

I agree with Setec...Gold Class ($11 a gallon at Target / $10 for a 1.25 gallon jug at Costco) might be a better deal and alternative in terms of cost.

With that said, I also prefer GC or NXT over the Detailer Line soaps. However, Hyper Wash does get a consideration point - it has a 400:1 recommended dilution rate. I just find performance (lubricity, cleaning power, suds, etc) to be lacking if you stick to that rate. If you use a traditional 128:1 ratio, the performance is virtually equivalent to GC and NXT washes. Just my 2 cents...

I really didn't analyze whether the Detailer soaps were a better deal, and can't speak to the performance since I haven't used any of them, I was just trying to be pragmatic about a similar shampoo that is OTC.

I just re-read my previous post and do offer an apology to Setec and the OP for my mistake - for clarification, I agree with Setec regarding the cost aspect of GC. The performance was based on my experiences. Sorry about the confusion...I will edit the post as well. :doh

Target/Costco/Sams's Club and places like that are all 45+ mins away (one direction), so I don't tend to go to places like that frequently.

I've been buying NXT in the 64oz jugs at parts stores/wally world for fairly cheap. Its just kind of hard to find sometimes because nobody in myarea consistently stocks it.

Thanks for the help.

Anyone used either of the other two soaps?

I haven’t tried Super Soap yet.

I really like both Hyper Wash And Shampoo Plus. I can’t say that I’ve found that one definitely performs better than the other on my cars. They both work great.

I get the feeling that S+ lubes a little better but I haven’t tried them at the same time on the same car with the identical mitts so I can’t back that up.

I remember once when I washed my truck with HW it just seemed to “glow (for lack of a better word) afterwards. I don’t know if it was the lighting that day or the HW but it sure looked great. My wife even asked if I had used a new wax on the car.

Other than cleaning performance, S+ smells better than the other Meg’s soaps I’ve used. The scent is lighter so it’s not overpowering over time. HW just smells like industrial soap (big surprise there).

GC is still my go-to shampoo. The 1.25gal is less than eight bucks at the local Costco.

PC.

I usually use a half-ounce of Chemical Guys Maxi-Suds per wash...not a Meg's product, but very economical at around $12 a gallon. Plus, cleaning ability and suds are excellent.

With Gold Class I typically use .75 ounces or so per wash. It's a great soap, I just wish it smelled better.

I have tried all the wash soaps (S+, 62, SS, NXT, GC) in the Meguiars line except the Hyper Wash. From memory my analysis is as follows. . .

I like Gold Class but find it doesn't stand up well against a moderately dirty vehicle. It's low viscosity makes using my hand pump a tad difficult to use. The closest Costco is a pain the rear, always.

NXT is great.

#62 is a good product, just a bit overpriced in comparison to the Detailer Line. It's a little thin but has very decent suds, FWIW.

Shampoo Plus is fairly thick, similar viscosity to the GC but much more slick. I used S+ for a few months until . . .

Super Soap entered the scene. More similar to the #62 in viscosity but much more rich foaming. Cleans very well.

I wash about a dozen vehicles a week and each one has seen something different. For a few weeks I mixed and matched all of the soaps in the Detailer Line (as well as GC), playing with ratios to achieve what I liked best about each soap. The main characteristics I was looking for encapsulation, lubrication and value. I now use about 100oz Shampoo Plus to 30oz Super Soap. Slippery as heck, cleans very well and conditions great. I am using a hand pump from USPlastics to push out four ounces of combined product into a five gallon bucket.

I do have a small supply if GC 160oz but primarily give these to my more motivated clients so they don't have to trek through Costco in their free time.

Sheesh, you didn't have to do that--I went and reread mine and thought maybe it could be misinterpreted....anyway...

also check out chemical guys line, I love the maxi suds. I would go to gold class if I was out and not placing an order for supplies.
