#80 can be used with different pads but isn't designed to be. In this case, the variation in cut won't equal the variation you get with D151.



Everything I've read over at MOL suggests it is much more aggressive than #83. Meguiars should know - they made it. ;)



I thought the same...i was just pointing out that one person that uses it with a polishing pad may think it cuts like #80 while another with a cutting pad may say #83...thats all i was getting at..which i would think the above would be about right...
 
I recently did an old Nissan pick-up, red, owner was trading the next day and wanted something quick and cheap. I did 151 with a 5.5" orange LC pad via PC - it was like painting the truck bright red again! He even got a fantastic trade in - dealer commented on how great it looked! LOL - had NOT been waxed in over 3 years!

I was actually going to put a link up to that click and brag. I remembered it because I was so impressed by how well the 151 worked. Nice job again!
 
I just finished detailing my neighbors neglected red Olds Alero with D151 after Dawn wash and clay, one pass with PC at speed 5 and 6 LC orange pad. The results were quite respectable for not too much time and effort. Finish was smooth with about 95 percent of marring removed. The finish looked very good but was not completely slick, kinda squeeky. I topped it with AW which enhanced the gloss and gave the paint a wonderful slickness. This is a good detail that can be done quickly
 
I was told that D151 is using the same technology than M105. When the micro abrasives were introduced in nov 2007, then they used it to lauch the 151 in the spring of 2008.
 
Used it for the first time this weekends (thanks Blue Zero), it worked great on my sisters White Mazda 6. Used it with an Orange 5.5 LC CCS pad and PC, took care of scratched and swirls and left a great finish behind.
 
I believe if you subject the D151 to my CD test you'll find it has the same ultra fine, yet ultra sharp, polishing agents. My experience it that these micro abrasives are not pad dependent. I've found that a wool pad and #9 will cut rather well, use a foam polishing pad and it has almost no cut. This is because the larger particle size will mar the paint if the pad doesn't have any "give" and doesn't utilize the lubricant in the polish.



Since M105 can't mar the paint it's very effective to just use a wool pad, no marring. A wool pad and even "gentle" megs DC step 2 left more marring than the M105 on wool which left basically none. So I think D151 would be a natural offshoot and great all around AIO.
 
Well, I finally broke out my sample of #151 last night, and I can say I'm pretty damn impressed. I'll try to get a pic or two up later this week or over the weekend.



I used it on a new model (Not exactly sure of the year) Ford Thunderbird (black) that was in pretty rough shape. The owner didn't want perfection...only the light stuff removed. I used a 4" orange LC pad with my PC on speed six. With one pass, all of the hazing and some of the lighter scratches were removed. He actually stopped by his warehouse I was working at, and I got to show him a live 50/50 of the hood, and he couldn't believe it.



I have a small section left to do tonight, and I'm going to test it again Poli-Seal (Same pad, speed, etc) to see which has more cut. Overall, I'm pretty impressed after one use. This would be a very nice product to use on softer paints that simply need to be maintained, or if you're looking for a real time saver.
