Megs #7 vs #5

Anyone know the difference between the two? I have an old bottle of #7 Show Car Glaze and was thinking about using it until I can get to using the PC for some light swirl correction on black. I'm just curious as to why they have the 2 different glazes. How do these compare to RMG?

I've got AJT on already with #26 and AW toppers so would #7 be effective with all these layers on already? Or should the glaze process take place before any LSP's, so before AJT? I would think the oils might not allow AJT to bond properly but I'm not sure.

Thanks,

Bert

bertmauricio- Can't comment on the RMG as I haven't used it. Also not sure about the #7 and the ATJ but I'd expect bonding issues. I've only used products like #5/#7 under waxes, but I hear others put them on top of stuff.

#7 looks better than #5 but I seldom appreciate the difference except on single stage paint of interesting colors. #7 seems best on single stage, #3/#5/#81 seem best on basecoat clear. #5 is *much* more user-friendly and is basically as easy to use as detailing products get. While I sometimes appreciate the better appearance of #7 (or #3, which is almost the same thing), I'll admit that I reach for #5 far more often just because I like using it. FWIW, it's not like I've never "mastered" using #7, I've used both since the mid-'70s.

The application methods differ- #7 never really dries, it just "skins" and you basically wipe off all the #7 that doesn't bond to/soak into the paint. #5 really dries, it's sorta like a wax in that you wipe it on, let it dry to a haze, and then buff it off, leaving behind the dried #5 that bonded with the paint. In this regard it's unique among the Meguiar's polishes, the others are wiped off while still a little "wet".

Thanks for all the info Accumulator. It's been a while since I've used Megs stuff, used to use it way back when I was spraying laquers and centari enamels on my own project cars. I've been reading up a lot here over the past few months and bought a pc and other stuff. I didn't even notice microfibers until I started reading here. Talk about living under a rock.

I have noticed it does take a lot more time with the PC vs a rotary but I've had my share of paint burns due to rushing and being careless. It'll be nice to not worry about that on my new black car.

Now that you mention it, I think it might be #3 that I have at home, not #7. Hmmm, I need to check that tonight. At any rate, I'll glaze until I can PC and then AJT at that point.
