Meg's #7. Better by PC or hand?

OK, I know. I have read the infamous posting on #7 by Mike Philips. I was doing a minivan for a friend on the weekend and i used #7 for the first time and tried in on a corner of the hood for a test. it turned out awesome. Problem is that i couldnt get nearly the results with a finishing pad (sonus DAS Blue) and a PC than i could with a terry towel and my hand. it got rid of a pile of light spider marks that even #83 and #80 left visible. any ideas on maybe my process blows or possibly not enough pressure on teh pad... Honestly I am just grasping at straws here

My guess is you didn't get rid of spider marks the #80 and #83 didn't remove, you just covered them up with the #7. It's a glaze and the main function of a glaze is to add oils and richness to the paint and (temporarily) hide any swirls in the paint. To be honest, I was a die hard #7 user for years - until I tried Vanilla Moose. The ease of application and idiot proof (which is great for me!) application and removal process blows away #7. You have to try it. I just ordered some RMG and have high hopes for that as a glaze too. My guess (and that's all it is) is that you might have put on a heavier coat by hand than with the PC and maybe got better results because you left more on the paint. But like you, that's just grasping at straws.

Honestly, if you do like glaze (like Meg's #7) give Vanilla Moose a try.

I apply with the PC, remove by hand. I use a finishing pad and speed between 1 and 2 to apply.

If I were to use the PC to remove, I wouldn't use a bare pad; I'd use a medium density pad with a microfiber bonnet. My experience is that the mf bonnet removes too much of the #7, and gums up quite a bit.

For removal I use a clean soft terry in one hand and a medium nap mf in the other. I wipe lightly with the terry, as if I were only trying to remove the top half of the #7; if you do it right you will be left with an oily film. I then wipe up the oily film with the mf towel.
