Megs #26 - how to apply?

laefd

Process over products.
Picked up a few at local AutoZone for $0.99 so gotta give it a try, right? Having some difficulty with the actual application - is this a WOWO similar to Souveran or do I let it haze? Seems to be difficult to remove regardless of my method.

Shine looks pretty decent with a bit of a "mute" to it, but clear, so it's definitely worth the $0.99. Doubt I'll get the durability of a UPP or Klasse but seems to be a pretty good "summer" wax for show applying every 2-3 weeks.

Comments?

durabilty on #26 is pretty good. but its no klasse either. i have also noticed that #26 muted a lot of the shine, but i was satisfied with the amount of gloss it left behind.

Having not used it, I would suggest following the mfg. suggested application instructions. Usually, they will state whether or not to let the wax haze before removal.

That's the "strange" thing with the Meg's - there are no instructions. They do have some marketing hype type statement about the quality of the carnuba used, etc., but absolutely nothing about application including type of applicator recommended, not even the standard "circular motion"...go figure.

My intitial experience has been to notice a "mute" but nice gloss...whether I WOWO or let it haze it does seem to be a bit of a pain to remove. Even "thin" is a bit frustrating.

It's been years since I last used #26, but I remember it being a wipe on / haze for a few minutes / wipe off product. If you don't leave it on long enough, it just smears around. If you leave it on too long, it will be very hard to remove. Make sure to apply onto a cool surface in the shade.

#26 needs to haze, but dont wait too long or it'll be difficult to remove.
Apply in very thin coats.
Can't go wrong for $.99, I cant believe it's still AU$28.99 here!

Sounds like one of those "you have to work with it before you understand it" type applications...just makes it all the more fun to use and now I even have an excuse for using it because "I'm learning".

Results so far are worth the effort. Not sure about durability but the look is very pleasing. UPP or SG is still my preference but for a wax it's a keeper....$0.99 moves it WAY up on my list!

With that high of a price down under, I may just vacation there and bring a few with me to help pay for the trip!

When I used #26 I put a thin coat on the entire vehicle, went back to where I started and swiped my finger across the wax. If their was no smearing I started wiping it off. If it smeared I had to wait a bit before removing. Even with thin coats and after passing the swipe test, it isn't the easiest wax to get off, but far, far from the hardest to remove.

#26, you'll need to wait to haze. Apply a very thin coat, start from the hood and go around the car. By time you come by the hood again, it should be ready to buff out. Are you using MF towel?

p.s. did you prep you car?

Car was/is well prepped and clean and MF to remove. THIN and let haze works better but definitely not the easiest to remove

I would apply it with a PC. I apply #16 (which is notoriously difficult to remove) with a PC and it comes off with little trouble. The PC puts down thinner layers than I can do by hand. I'm assuming a PC would have a similar effect on #26.

PC is a very good thought and I'll try it next time...any advice on getting the wax out of the can?

For #16 I use a small plastic putty knife, I'm sure that would also work with #26. I just lightly scrape the surface of the wax and then lightly "butter up" the pad.

I've read where others have also used a small rubber spatula, small plastic knife, and even the PC wrench.

The instructions are on the big lid that holds the applicator:

"Directions: for best results apply to a clean, cool surface in the shade. if the finish is neglected, call meg's rx hotline for other specific product recommendations. KEEP OFF VINYL, RUBBER, AND CLOTH SURFACES. place a small amount of product on applicator (included) and spread a thin, even coat over the surface. apply one section at a time. Allow product to dry to a haze. use a meguiar's ultimate wipe or a clean 100% cotton, terry cloth towel to wipe off residue. turn to a clean portion of towel for final wipe."

Maybe you didn't get the lid?

:yeah

I have found however, that it is much easier to remove #26 paste when applied to at least two and maybe even three panels before removing from the first. Additionally, a spritz or two (or maybe even three) of a QD and the use of two MF towels helps the removal.

On a different note, has anyone noticed something of a "crumbly" nature to their product?

i hit a 1'x1' section on my fender with this stuff, by hand, it shined a little. I got some for .99 too, i'll prolly just give it to my dad, he doesnt care about stuff as much as i do.

I use one of those fake credit cards that come as promotional material in the mail. I get a bunch of them, and because they are plastic, the wax doesn't stick. They also flex so that makes it easier to spread the wax across the pad.
