Meg's #16 Question

I've still got a tin and a half but would eventually like to get more. Is it still readily available or is it going to be like looking for a needle in a haystack?

Thanks,

Mike

The last time I gave away my sources, the dude bought the entire stock(6 boxes of 6) worth and I now have no more sources :(

If you really want #16 you should buy it now, I'm sure the stock is drying up.

I hear you , I keep my secret sources to myself :grinno:

Why are you so sad? #16 is still available in Europe; you can buy as much as you want. It cost 12 in the UK, €36.5 in Austria and CHF55.3 in Switzerland...

as long as you apply very thin coats. I've had my original tin for about 3 years now and I'm halfway done. Granted, I've been "testing" other waxes/sealants over those three years so...

I'm just stockpiling as it is one, if not, my favorite wax of all. Pretty bold statement to make, but it beads water for a long, long time (months) even through summer months!

I get about 70-80 cars out of a tin. I'm down to my last 5 tins. :nervous:

5 Tins ought to last you about jeez, a long time ... that's like 350 coats, by about 10 times a year (and thats a lot considering how long 16 lasts) you're good for like 35 years. Not bad, suppose you could still get a few more though :D

I called West Marine yesterday and asked how many Megs #16 tins they had left. The answer was 120 and then its gone. Although, I hear you can buy it from Megs UK for around 20 bucks (plus shipping) a tin if you so dare.

I just bought 9 tins for my storage cabinet :dance

Thanks Autopia for all your free advice and friendly smiles !

9 your set for life lol, good luck and GO THIN if not your arm will hurt trying to remove it. Also pick up some quality microfifer towels they make removal of the product much easier.

while were still on the topic of #16, i apply by hand and it find that once the stuff goes on a little too thick... it's quite difficult to remove. I BARELY swiped the tin with my foam applicator too... any advice?

If Meg's #16 is put on too thick, spray a little QD (don't soak the area) on it and it "should" make life a little easier.

OR you can use a MF bonnet with your PC to remove it.

I try to scrape as much as I can off the applicator before touching it to the car (I use a plastic razor blade for the scraper). It's pretty incredible how *little* you need for adequate coverage. Also, try to spread it out over as large an area as possible. When doing it by hand, try to "work it" a little; #16 will turn from paste to liquid with a little friction/heat and that's the way you want to apply it. While it's liquid you can spread it out pretty well. So move your applicator a bit faster than you might otherwise. Don't think of it as "applying a paste wax" in the normal sense.
